Falken ZE912 Reviews - Page 4

Given 81% while driving a Alfa Romeo GT 1.9 JTD (215/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 12 average miles
Pretty good tyres - fitted to the fonr of the Alfa, which is supposedly a bit heavy on front tyres, so only managed 12,000miles before needing replacement (which is pretty standard by all accounts).
A bit harsh over pot-holes and speedbumps, although not sure how much of that is the tyres, and how much is the suspension setup (which is standard all round).
Generally pretty happy with the tyre as a mid-range product.

Given 47% while driving a Volkswagen Passat 2.0TDI (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 6,500 average miles
I got two of these tyres fitted to my Passat in Jan 2013 and after 6,500 miles of commuting to work they are now bald. They are extremely poor wearing and I will be avoiding them like the plague in future. My local tyre dealer was embarrassed when I called in yesterday and showed him the condition they were in after such a short period.

Given 93% while driving a SEAT Leon Cupra (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 16,000 spirited miles
i had these tyres fitted on my seat leon cupra 16,000 miles ago, and even though i am an agressive driver, they have only just worn out. I attack corners and drive to enjoy the performance of my motor and can honestly say these tyres have been through hell since they`ve been on there. they are a superbly durable and enjoyable tyre. understandably not quite so good in the wet (compound and weather contributing) but overall i cannot fault the rubber. i get irritated at idiots responding and reviewing these tyres when they aren`t sure what they are on about. I am a motor sport mechanic and can not fault them. i have replaced them with 453`s as i have been assured they are "the bollocks" and the equivilent i was supplied were shitty eco tyres. if you wanna good ride, theres no subsitute to good rubber. go falken.

Given 70% while driving a Peugeot 407 4 door sedan 2.0 petrol (215/60 R16 H) on mostly town for 15,000 easy going miles
I just cant believe some of the reviews on here. Drove 22000 km on these and they are not fully down to the first wear marker, meaning they should last a quite unheard of 60 000km. 2009 DOT tire, bought 2010. Falken has been charged with toying with compounds a lot on a given tire, without notice, and I'm starting to believe it, reading the last dozen reviews here.
Looks like a totally different tire. I do drive very easy.
The good in my experience:
Wear - almost non existent, but I have a short commute putting the tire through a lot of heat up / cool down cycles.
Great in wet, little to no difference in handling and stopping.
The bad:
Weights a full 3kg more per tire in 215/60/16 compared to my Firestone Winterhawks.
Weight is taxing on the ride, acceleration, fuel economy, steering feel and accuracy to name a few.
Literally the car feels a lot heavier and clumsier. Meaning
everything but wear and wet performance is below par in the given size and probably most sizes.
Having said that they are not horrible and the Ze-914 update should be quite good with the weight issue fixed.

Given 57% while driving a Honda Civic Coupe 1.6i SR VTEC (195/50 R15) on mostly country roads for 20 spirited miles
I like these tyres, they don't feel any different on a wet road to a dry road, needing a really big puddle to unsettle them. BUT they are squidgy, with much too much roll when changing direction. They also wear ridiculously fast, 6000 miles on the front of my Civic, the rears better, naturally though not by much! I've used ZE912s for the past 3 years, gone through 3 sets. Gone to Rainsport2s now, can't afford to be changing tyres this often!

Given 73% while driving a BMW 320i Msport (255/40 R17 W) on mostly town for 35,000 average miles
I drive a BMW 320i sport pack. these were my first set as i was looking for a good budget tyre. Read the reviews and they looked great. Handles well in the dry thought i feel i could have pushed my car harder in the corners with my BMW sports suspension but very happy with the dry grip never let go and in the wet. Done about 35000km on the rear tyres and need changing. The front tyres 35000km and still have plenty of life not even half of the tread gone, remember my car is rear wheel drive so that why. Had some tyre noise but its probably due to the flat spot i found on my one rear tyre. I am thinking of buying these again. Considered yokohama advan sport but weat rate seems too high and percentage buy again on the reviews too low.

Given 50% while driving a Ford Mondeo (215/55 R16 V) on mostly town for 9,000 easy going miles
I bought a pair of these Falken's in Jan 2012 after reading good reviews here. Before I bought these the overall % was in the high 80's, now its down to mid to low 70's. I now know why; check the most recent reviews and these tyre's wear dreadfully!! 13 months on the Mondeo, and 9,000 careful miles and the tread is down to the minimum 2mm and WORSE on the inner. Tracking has been checked and double checked and is within acceptable limits so I am informed. Performance of tyre overall was OK, and I bought these as a compromise between performance and value. I didn't want a cheap and cheerful tyre but a decent and safe one. I fully expected a good wear rate and as its described as a 'premium' touring tyre this is what I thought I would get. However I have done only 9000 miles and the tyres are shot across the whole tyre with even wear. I can't quite believe it as I drive very gently, I do not accelerate hard, corner hard or brake hard. I check the tyre pressures regularly, but to no avail; these tyres are shocking and I have never seen tyre's wear so fast. I would never buy Falken tyres again, first and last time for me. My advice is give these a huge miss, as they are not good value for money - quite the opposite in fact.

Given 87% while driving a Mercedes Benz E Class (215/50 R17 V) on mostly motorways for 1,000 average miles
These tyres are still in their early stage and I will definitely write another review as they gain a lot more mileage. So far I'm very pleased with what I've gotten for my money. Some have derided Falkens as "false economy" but from my previous experiences with them, I can honestly say that it's not quite right. I've used the cheaper ZE512 on this car before this and the good experience over the 16 months or so covering more than 30,000 km has made me consider Falkens again. This time I decided to go for the ZE912, which is a grade above my previous tyres.

These tyres are quiet and comfortable and are very suitable for the roads of Malaysia - often they are dry and hot during part of the day and then wet later on. Or vice versa. In either condition, I'm very confident driving with the ZE912... even more than the previous 512. The latter were okay enough but their grip, feedback and progressiveness aren't as good as the 912.

But take note that these aren't high-performance tyres and it's not prudent to push your car too hard. And it's not fair to compare them with the high-performance tyres either simply because these Falkens are in a different category. I'd rate the ZE912 as "budget-priced but with better than mid-range performance". "You get what you pay for..."? No, I got MORE than that.

Given 76% while driving a Lexus IS250SE (235/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 12,000 average miles
Very impressed in the wet (and i drive fast) in the dry it's a very good tyre handles very nicly. This is my third set of tyres on my BMW. I have also put on my Lexus and it handles like a dream. The only problem is that it wears out very quickly....but hey you can't have everything.
