Tyre Reviews [Tire Reviews LLC] is run by Jonathan Benson, and is the leading tyre information resource in the world. Tyre Reviews helps millions of tyre buyers each month decide what tyre they should purchase.
In my role as a professional tyre tester helping people make purchase decisions, I hold myself to the highest standards I possibly can to preserve my impartiality. I would argue that the testing standards of Tyre Reviews exceeds any other tyre test available due to completely open data, transparent grading, blind testing, and conscious decoupling of financial rewards from test results. I am not aware of another tyre test publication that goes to these lengths to ensure fairness of results.
As long as Tyre Reviews is under my control, you will never see a review or comparison video that has been sponsored by the subject of those videos, and you will never see a tyre recommendation that has been paid for.
Tyre Testing Information
Tyre testing is hugely complicated and expensive, and requires very specialist test facilities which are more often than not owned by the tyre companies. This means tyre manufacturers host most of the world's independent tyre tests, including Tyre Reviews, Auto Express, Auto Bild, ADAC, Tire Rack, Car and Driver etc.
When a company hosts a Tyre Reviews tyre test, they have no control over the tyres included in the test, the tests conducted, or the results of the test. This is entirely under my control.
It is true that often the tyre companies hosting the test place well in the test, this is because of two major factors:
1) The tyre manufacturers with the resources to host independent tyre testing are usually the premium manufacturers with the budget to make class leading products.
2) Tyre manufacturers are keen to have their new products tested to firstly spread the word about a new tyre launch, and also because test their new tyre during development against all the key competitors, meaning they are confident the new tyre will perform well in the test. They would not be inviting press to test the product if they were not confident from internal benchmarking it was class leading.
There is a list of tyre tests Tyre Reviews has conducted, who hosted, and the result at the bottom of the page, where you will see hosting does not guarantee a win.
To further promote transparency of results, Tyre Reviews is one of the few publications that is fully open about how the final results are calculated. There is no secret background calculations made to the Tyre Reviews scoring system, as there are with AutoBild and ADAC etc, to put the tyres into grades. Tyre Reviews also publishes ALL the data in the test to ensure you can verify the calculations made to arrive at the final results.
Lastly, where possible, I test blind, meaning during subjective tests (handling, noise and comfort) I do not know what tyre I am driving on, which further helps remove any potential for sub concious biases to the host of the test.
Advertising Information
I started Tyre Reviews as a hobby because I love testing tyres and automotive products, not to make money. Over the years the workload has made Tyre Reviews a full time endeavour, so sponsored content makes up a part of our revenue and without it, Tyre Reviews would not be able to operate.
Tyre Reviews does not currently produce full-length sponsored videos on the YouTube Channel. Every test is completely managed by myself, and I have full editorial control. No company can pay for preferential placement, scheduling, or pay to produce a video that I wouldn't otherwise create. I choose the products I cover.
Video Integrations
Any advertising in Tyre Reviews videos will be clearly marked as advertising.
Website advertising
Tyre Reviews offers advertising on the various tyre reviews websites. Advertising on the website is separate to any testing or YouTube content, and there is absolutely no agreement or verbal implication that advertising on the website influences any content schedule or test results.
AdSense Advertisements
The pre-roll and post-roll advertisements placed on Tyre Reviews YouTube videos and banner adverts on the website are selected by Google's AdSense platform. Tyre Reviews has no input into those advertisements or affiliation with the companies that produce them.
Social Media
All sponsored content on the Tyre Reviews social media channel is marked by the hashtags #ad or #sponsored, clearly displayed in the body of the caption or on the Story. If these hashtags are not present, the photo or video is organic content.
Travel and Accommodation
Tyre Reviews does accept travel and lodging assistance from companies. This includes airfare, train, taxi, and hotel to manufacturer release events, industry trade shows, and other media opportunities. It can also include incidental costs during those occasions (such as meals.) This has no bearing on the amount or extent of coverage Tyre Reviews provides.
Review Samples
Some tyres are provided by manufacturers for testing. These are never owned by Tyre Reviews and are either returned or more often destroyed after the test is concluded ensuring no financial reward for testing.
Awards Licencing
Occasionally, a manufacturer will showcase an excerpt from one of my reviews or awards programs in its advertising. For these uses, companies sometimes pay a fee. I do not tailor my content or awards to solicit or encourage licensed usage. I specifically give 99% of awards away for free in order to remain impartial.
Investments
I do not hold any investments or financial interest in the brands whose products I cover.
