Pirelli PZero Rosso Reviews - Page 7

Given 80% while driving a Ford Mondeo ST220 (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 8,000 average miles
Great tyres for the price. handled good in dry conditions and also held their own in the wet at speed on roundabouts and never felt like they were about to slide. Tyre wear wasnt the greatest but still acceptable.

Given 41% while driving a Audi A3 Sportback (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 6,000 spirited miles
These were the original brand fitted from new - the worst feature is the road noise they create - very sensitive to the type of road surface, even t 30 mph the tyre noise is awful. Grip is disappointing compared with Continentals I've had on previous cars, and it is easy to break traction under acceleration in the dry. In the wet they do not inspire confidence. Certainly won't buy this brand again.

Given 60% while driving a Volvo XC90 D5 185 HP (255/50 R19 W) on mostly motorways for 8,000 easy going miles
These came standard on my XC90 RDesign, not a sporty car by any means. I have no idea why they are fitted to a 4x4 SUV, they will be lucky to do 11,000 miles

Given 57% while driving a SEAT Leon FR 2.0 TFSI (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 6,000 spirited miles
These are the stock tyre on a SEAT Leon FR TFSI and to be honest, I never really expect that much from stock tyres since they're generally decided upon by what corporate deal the manufacturers can strike rather than whether it's a good tyre or not.

In the case of the Rossos, this is also true. They're not an awful tyre by any means, in the dry they're fairly reasonable but wet grip isn't very good (takes an age to get heat into them) and for the price, there are much, much better tyres out there.

If you really must have a set then they'll be fine, but honestly, you'll be far better of with a set of Eagle F1s, Conti Sport Contact 3s or Bridgestone RE050As... alternatively, get a set of Kumho KU31s which will walk all over the Pirellis and pretty much match the others but for a 2/3rds the price!

Given 71% while driving a Skoda Octavia vRS (205/50 R17) on mostly town for 7,000 average miles
Ok for every day driving and commuting. And ok when choosing to put the power down in the dry (my vRS is remapped to 220BHP).

Wet driving is fine for normal conditions and hairy at anything faster.

As an extra note - I got caught in the snow last winter and they were terrible. But then they are summer tyres and in the UK, as it isn't law yet, not many of us change for winter tyres...

Very good tyre all round, have got 23000 mls so far and will change after another 2000mls.

Given 67% while driving a Skoda Yeti 4 x 4 (225/50 R17 W) on mostly country roads for 11,000 average miles
Very predictable safe handling in the dry, only just less in the wet. Rubbish in snow, went everywhere. Biggest disappointment was the wear rate - down to 2.5 mm after 11000 miles, and I haven't been trying very hard.

GENERALLY A GOOD TYRE BUT THE WEAR RATE PARTICULARLY ON THE FRONT IS POOR

Given 81% while driving a Peugeot 307 (205/50 R17 W) on mostly country roads for 45,000 average miles
Good quality safe tyre in all conditions. Excellent road holding and braking when combined with Peugeot geometry and technology. Front tyres last approximately 15000 miles, which is a bit disappointing considering the price. Shop around for best deal.

Given 77% while driving a Audi A3 Sportback (225/45 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 35,000 spirited miles
Completed about 35k miles in one year in the new Audi A3. Tyre wear has been great, but handling in wet, particularly the snow, has been disappointing. Where others negotiated hills with ease, we slipped and slid all over the place.

Noise has not been too good either, so am about to try Falken's following other reviews on this site and hope to see some improvement.

Given 76% while driving a Audi A3 Sportback Quattro 2.0L TDI (170 PS) (225/45 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 30,000 spirited miles
These tyres have been brilliant although road noise can be a factor. Great in both wet and dry but to be honest, I should have replaced them 5000 miles ago a the last 5000 miles have not felt so good, despite the tyres having greater than 1.6 mm tread depth.

I've driven a lot int he snow with the quattro working well and the tyres handled things perfectly on all but the worst roads.

Going for Continental Sport Conact 3 next as they promise lower road noise...we'll see.
