Toyota GR86 Tyre Review Highlights
Writing about the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 given 89% (205-55-16)
I use the car for 1) going places 2) drifting. As far as 1) goes, the tyres are of course adequate, maybe noisier than average at highway speeds.

As for 2): these are the best "winter" tyres for my use case that I've tried. I haven't tired that many, but I can say there are summer tyres with (much) softer sidewall. At-limit/beyond-limit handling is pretty great, in the dry and in the wet. In the wet, there's still reasonable sidebite when sliding (that you don't get with bad cheap tyres) - progressive breakaway and all that good stuff. Can't say much about snow (well I can say that with 2.5 mm tread remaining, snow grip is bad - but that's probably normal).

Tyre wear is not bad, about on par with most summer tyres I've tired, and for example much better than winter Bridgestones I've had once. As far as I can tell, the wear is pretty minimal until too much heat gets involved - even with these in the front, some light track driving in 10 minute stints (light for the front tyres I mean) results in some accelerated wear. But, now talking about rear tyres, stuff like a 30 second drift run is fine. The tyres also handle handbrake drags well, they don't chunk/tear/delaminate easily.

The attached photo is just for curiosity, to admire the inner construction and stuff :). This is absolutely not typical (see previous paragraph), that's from a track day where I had delamination issues even with semislicks - it was a cold day, and that day I learned that very cold tyres should be brought up to temperature more... slowly and carefully.

Writing about the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 given 77% (215-40-18)
Driving on mostly country roads for 14000 spirited miles
I put about 14,000 miles on my GR86 OE tires, including 3 hot track weekends. They are about down to the wear bars now, which isn't bad considering how gnarly they looked after each track weekend.

The biggest con with the PS4 for this application was probably the road noise. I know it drives some people nuts. For me it was noticeable but acceptable. The car always handled great on them, and even at the track they did well enough. Very predictable, though they would get pretty greasy feeling. Totally reasonable given the nature of the tire.

The biggest surprise for me was how uniformly and cleanly they wore down despite ~2 degrees negative camber all around. I've had issues with some other summer tires wearing abnormally, with or without camber.

I didn't spend much time in the wet with them, let alone driving hard in the wet. But any time I did, they again did well enough.
I will likely replace them with the PS5.

Writing about the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 given 58% (225-45-17)
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
Bought this all season tyre to replace a dedicated winter/summer touring set so i can focus on having a dedicated Summer Sport tyre set and an all season for the rest of the year when its not hot and when the mountain roads are slippery and tracks are closed. I live in Central Europe, winter has a few snowy days, the rest is just wet in different levels from soaking to foggy. Summer is hot and starts early without a real spring. So all seasons look like a reasonable choice. I didn't exactly look for a sporty all season tyre, as when I bought it the CC3 Sport was still months aways from stock, so I wanted to use it for regular street driving and maybe a little bit of sporty driving.
The thing is, i'm sure the grip is good, but there are two super weak points in this tyre that makes sporty driving impossible.
1., Complete absence of road feedback or traction feedback, you feel NOTHING on the front or rear axle, and it couldn't be said the the GR86 have little feedback itself, its completely tyre related numbness, which when you drive regulary its fine, quiet and comfortable ride, but try to push it and all you will notice is the traction control works all the time especially ->
2., Wet braking. I have two tyres I can comprare it to, summer Eagle F1 and winter Blizzak LM006s, both excellent in the wet and are dedicated season tyres, the blizzaks but even the Eagles stop my other car without issues in the same circumstances with little wheels lock (no ABS on Toyota Celica). So compared to a dedicated winter wet king, the wet breaking is medicore at best.
I would have to say, so feel it you really have to provoke them, which only occur in emergency or if you push the car, both can be avoided by driving like a normal person does in winter.. carefully. If thats the case, the tyres are great even.
The tyres are still new, half a year old, Snow and Ice didn't occure at this time of writing the review, I will update it if that happens.
(for GR owners: with this tire at highway speed around 110-130km/h the road noise is low, you don't have to raise your voice even a little, really nice ride if you can cool your petrol blood for the winter season, coming from a 25mm lowered car)

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza Race given 80% (225-40-18)
Driving on a combination of roads for 2500 average miles
I bought this set of Potenza Race as a dedicated track tire, discounted due to being 2 year old production. I ended up putting a few thousand miles onto them this year mostly on the street. I was most surprised by how comfortable they were for being such a hard-carcassed tire. The only issue I had with them for day to day driving was stone pickup.

The most interesting characteristic is that they start out a little numb in terms of steering feel, but the harder you push them the better they feel. Getting to the limit, they are confidence inspiring. It's like they're not meant to be worked at less than 7 tenths, which makes sense considering it's a 200TW track tire.

I only used them in the rain a few times and they were fine, but I didn't push them in the wet. That couple thousand road miles doesn't seem to have worn them all all, so I'm banking on getting at least 3 track weekends on them in 2026.

Driving on mostly country roads for 700 spirited miles
The biggest POS of a tire I’ve ever had, THREE out of 4 tires had some sort of dip that caused vibration, one so bad at 140kmh that I had to change a “brand new” tire, the other two I kept because it’s kind of tolerable but still pisses me off on a brand-new car. I say “brand new” because after about 1000km of country roads the guy said, “Damn how much have you driven”, I don’t think and hope they will last over 5000km. And it pisses me off because honestly it’s such a good tire on the dry, still haven’t had the chance to test it on the wet. I’ll stick to Michelin for the next set, even if the performance is worse they never fail me.
Yes if you are wondering the wheels are fine, they are brand new after all.

Driving on track for 7000 spirited miles
Not a lot to add on top of others reviews and the official review.

For track / dual purpose these seem to just do it all. I'm yet to try a wet trackday but plenty of confidence road driving in the wet , and plenty of traction!

There's shed loads of dry grip, almost a little too much if you would rather have the limits close to you on the road. On track this of course translates to some serious corner speed for a road tyre and with enough feedback to adjust too. They also don't seem to drop off in grip level. A session of 15-20 mins easily builds consistency.

Would recommend to anyone wanting secure, grippy, talkative tyres that take a beating well.

Over the limit they're alright too, but I feel they prefer to be on the grip side.

I'm going to come back to them, but first revert to some more 'fun' options which are more playful at modest speeds.

Writing about the Yokohama Advan Sport V107 given 80% (225-40-18-)
Driving on track for 1000 spirited miles
I've been closely following Jonathans recommendations for summer tyres, but I'm not always after outright grip. I had the V105 tyres on a GT86 and absolutely loved them for their progressive nature at the limit, and therefore how playful they were.

The V107 feels similar, if a little higher outright grip. Difficult to unstick on the road but perhaps this'll change with a few miles on them.

On track in the dry, these really surprised me, their relatively high grips levels didnt drop off even after 15 minutes - impressive for a road tyre! They also didnt melt, however the central rib of the tyre showed a wedge effect - unclear whether this was lack of camber (2.3deg), or running slightly too high pressure (32hot).

They provide excellent feedback, so you know whats coming - even at moderate road speeds.

They have relatively high noise on the motorways however, so don't expect a comfy touring tyre like the PS4, but the tradeoff is the feedback/communication is better.
They feel similar to the Premium Contact 6 (but grippier, however this could be because they're new), but weirdly , quieter! Loved the PC6 for dynamics (even stiffer sidewall on PC6, says my tyre fitter), but they didnt last so well on track so i'll be sticking with the V107 for a while as a great dual purpose tyre.

Haven't pushed on in the wet yet, but seem fine on the road and inspire confidence.

Would recommend the V107 for those who value feedback and being progressive at the limit! I'll update this as more miles get on them.

Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
Great on dry roads or track, with great resistance to heat on track for a road tyre.
Excellent feed-back on steering!
They are a bit sketchy on wet cold roads.
I did a pretty long track day with them and around 5'000km on the road, they have around 5'000km left.

Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 spirited miles
Great winter tyre nothing bad to say about it, great all rounder on a sporty car.
After around 20'000km they got 5mm left, the only bad thing is the increased price, next winter i think i will get Pirelli's Cinturato Winter 2.

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza Race given 87% (225-40-18-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 1500 spirited miles
I really enjoy the Potenza Race on my GR86. As you say, great reactive steering, not too noisy and they go around the track very well! I was going to use the OEM PS4 for street use but I hate how soft they feel so I run the Potenza Race on street too and they work great. Of course in the winter I will switch to proper winter tires. I have not driven extensively in rain but the rain I've driven in didn't cause any issues or felt unsafe.
I do have some wear on the outer shoulders from running on the track, but it might be because I'm running a moderate amount of camber for track use (slightly less than -3 degrees. On a McPherson strut I probably need closer to 4 degrees. But since its mixed usage I think it's going to even out over the life of the tires.)

Driving on mostly country roads for 8000 spirited miles
Good level of feedback compared to PS4, allows confidence to push on at and around the limit and is a fun tyre.
Have also used on track in Anglesey in the pouring rain and it handled superbly, way more grip there than expected and plenty of warning when about to take liberties. Not sure it'll take too much beating in the dry in terms of wear but overall exceptionally good. Would recommend if you like good feedback in a tyre. Quite noisey though!
