Volvo C30 R Design Sport Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Sava Intensa UHP 2 given 62% (235-40-18-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 300 spirited miles
After buying my 2nd C30, it came with a brand new set of these tires on the summer wheels. For comparison my previous C30 is on Goodyear eagle f1 supersports. My initial thoughts are that they shouldn't be called intensa UHP 2 but rather intensa touring 2. On hard cornering you feel the tires rolling on the sidewall( this could also be strengthened by the fact that they are 235 on 7.5" rims) and they just don't give you that sporty feeling even on this car which is lowered by about 35mm. Not particularly impressive grip either, as i managed to properly embarrass myself pulling out of the school junction spinning through the entire two first gears without even trying with my 177hp in the dry. On the Goodyears they hook as you go into 2nd gear. All in all not what I would call a UHP tire, and I have now swapped over my wheels and tires from my 1st C30, and will be selling these with that car. Only redeeming quality is the comfort, but personally I would rather have a broken back with sporty handling than comfort without sports.

Recently fitted new all round so can't judge full yet, but I immediately noticed how quiet and smooth they feel compared to my previous little worn, but inadequate 'Event'!!!! tyres, and they definitely have much less forward rolling resistance, so I expect they will be better on fuel economy.
Grip already feels really good in both dry and wet conditions, and braking distances have shrunk.
Things will likely change as I put some wear into them, but first impressions are very good, and I'll reserve full judgement until later.

Writing about the Rotalla RU01 S Pace given 85% (205-50-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Very impressed, hold the road in both wet and dry conditions, noise levels very low and the ride has improved much more comfortable. The steering feels a touch lighter with these meaning the feedback is a touch less and its to early to say about wear. I have not tried a hard stop and hope I won't have to but overall I'm very happy with these tyres and would buy again.

Recently purchase a Volvo C30 D3 2012 R-Design and these tyres were already fitted.
I have being driving on them just over one month and I have just ordered up a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 to replace them.I have little faith in these tyres and do wonder why some people fit such a poor tyre on a reasonably powerful car.In the dry they are just about passable,it's a complete lack of feedback from the tyre and the noise given off by them is terrible on certain road surfaces as for wet grip it's very poor and traction brakes very easily with little feedback.
I suggest you give these a wide berth next time some tyre outlet suggests them and try and purchase some a tad better.

Driving on mostly country roads for 5000 spirited miles
My experience of Uniroyal is in a friends car, but has prompted me to order a set of 205/55 R16 V91 Rainsport 3's. I have studied many, many reviews, looked at prices on every on line site available and come to the conclusion that these tyre are the best choice for me. I was amazed to find no garages here in Torquay sell these tyres, and most will only fit tyres purchased from them! I found one garage that will fit my tyres allowing me to buy at a bargain price online and have them fitted at local garage and old tyres disposed of etc. Pointless wasting money on the two other alternatives I considered, Goodyear Efficient Performance and Michelin Cross Climate. Looking forward to great driving even in UK weather.

Just bought a set for my rears, have had them on the front for about a year and a half. I moved from UHP tyres to 'touring' tyres to improve wear rate - and it's definitely worked. The pay of is aggressive grip due to a softer sidewall. For daily driving these are great, not so good f spirited driving but that's not what they're made for.

I woul definitely recommend, iv not got them on all corners. Got loads of tread left after about 10k miles, only used a couple of mm

Writing about the Continental Sport Contact 5 given 67% (205-50-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 6000 spirited miles
The grip is fantastic wet or dry. To get the economy the tyres raise to reduce the contact patch when travelling straight, but this translates to a feeling of instability at speed as the tyre raises and drops. The wear rate is horrific, I'm down to the wear limit in 6000 miles. Very disappointed as auto express rated them the best tyre 2015, I guess they didn't test wear rates. I will not buy them again. I've ordered some Nokian zLine to replace them.

Driving on mostly motorways for 12000 average miles
Note: 1. I do not drive at the limit therefore my opinion on progressiveness should probably be ignored.
2. I have only ever driven this car using GoodYear EfficientGrip Performance

When I first had these tyres new there was virtually no road noise inside the cabin at 70mph on the motorway, this was consistent up until about 10,000 miles where the compound became significantly noisier.

Cornering is great, the car never feels like it's approaching the edge of grip when cornering at the same speed in the wet and the dry, traction is fantastic also with it being difficult to accidentally spin the wheels under hard acceleration from a stand still. Grip has not significantly reduced after 12,000 miles however I am replacing all four tyres after a puncture as the tread is getting near replacement anyway and the road noise was bothering me.

The tyres do introduce a little more roll to the car due to the soft sidewalls however with my sports chassis it has probably improved the ride in favour of comfort, what isn't so great about the soft sidewalls is that they bulge quite a lot, which helped cause a puncture when the tyre sidewall became pinched against a curb, tearing the tyre and leaving me with 122 miles to drive on a space saver.

I am actually buying these tyres again, mainly because they are so cheap compared to their rivals, I wanted to try out Michelin PS3s but I can't justify paying £30 extra per tyre when I know that the GoodYear EfficientGrip Performance will give me good, quiet, grippy, fuel efficient performance that caters to my high motorway mileage requirements.

Have these tyres on my C30 and they have been the best winter tyres I've ever had and I've had a far few sets on different cars over the 5 years we have been living up in the north Pennines of England. I've run these in every condition including a good few inches of snow in town and in the countryside and they are great with no problems at all, in fact you have more trouble standing up when you get out the car on the frozen compacted snow to get in the car than you do driving ! I've still got them on now and should really swap back to my summer tyres but if honest I've no reason to as the grip is ace and there no real noise difference just the softer rubber is likely to wear more I guess, but otherwise I'd just run them all the time. If you are here on this site checking what to buy for winter use then first I'd say get winter tyres they change the whole experience of winter driving and you owe it to everyone you take in your car to be as safe as possible and with that in mind buy these tyres, they might not have the price tag of the premium brands but they do have the more important performance to out class those premium brands

Driving on a combination of roads for 31000 average miles
These were put on by mistake by the tyre fitter...I wanted goodyear efficient grip performance but got these excellence...

At first annoyed..but..i got over it. These are comfy, good in wet and dry conditions. My fronts have so far lasted 31k miles, mixed driving.
I can now feel that they need replacing (3mm left) as the wet and dry grip is noticeably worse. And will this time try my original choice of the effecientgrip performance.

By no means a sporty tyre, but they last longer. I've had falkens, pirellis, hankooks but currently value more miles than high speed corner grip.
