Dunlop SP Sport Maxx Reviews - Page 6

Given 66% while driving a Volkswagen Polo GTI (215/40 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 15,000 spirited miles
I've used Dunlop tires for 15.000 miles and 3mm left already. At the beginning the feel and grip was great but after 5.000 miles, the feeling change to negative.

It is hard to find 215/40 R17 in Turkey but still I'm looking for other brands..

If you have other alternatives do not choose them.

Given 53% while driving a Jaguar 5.0 XK Portfolio (285/30 R20 W) on mostly country roads for 16,000 average miles
Original equipment on my 2011 5.0 XK (not an R). Rears wore out in 8,000 miles - and not track work/boy racer driving. Very poor traction, especially in the wet. Fronts near replacement point and have 16000 miles on them; they lack steering feel but grip well under braking and in cornering. Will try P Zero's next time - I see that Jag. fit at OE now. Michelins seem better except for road noise issue reported on this site.

Given 97% while driving a Lexus IS 220D (225/45 R17 R) on a combination of roads for 35,000 average miles
Factory fitted on my Lexus IS220, 35000 miles and now lookin at little worn on inside and outside of front tyres and due for renewal. Similar tyres on back, different size good for another 10000. What you guys doing on to get less than 10000?

Given 89% while driving a Volvo (215/45 R17 W) on mostly country roads for 3,000 spirited miles
I have the Maxx RT's, not listed on the drop down option. Only had them for 3000 miles, but they are a revelation. I thought Conti's were great but these are so much better. They are wearing quicker but with 370bhp through the front tyres that's no surprise. Excellent in the dry and in the wet. Even at the end of November given a couple of miles to warm up they grip and grip. Great feedback and very progressive on the limit. Thoroughly recommended.

Given 50% while driving a Ford falcon xr6 turbo ute (245/35 R19 W) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
I find them very noisy & they ride rough even taking into account they are mounted on a Ute ........ also tend to tram track more than others I have had on a number of cars in the past.

Given 50% while driving a Skoda Fabia vRS (205/40 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 2,000 spirited miles
an update on the below review... I took them on the track day, and they desintigrated, they simply "rolled over" on the tread, and half of each tread block "feathered" , they got too hot and literally fell apart...
no I know they are not track tyres, but I used maxxis Z1's for 4 laps of the nurburgring and the track at castle combe and they were fine and never overheated or disintegrated!

they were SO bad, I sold them a week later and put some Z1's back on, and it transformed the car, it was fun to drive again, and grip vastly improved in both wet and dry.

i wouldnt reccomend the dunlops unless all you do is motorway driving. they are the worst premium tyre I have ever come accross.

Given 56% while driving a Skoda Fabia vRS (205/40 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 1 spirited miles
these tyres are the worse "premium" tyre I have ever experianced. they came as OE on my fabia vRS (I traded my old one in with nangkang winters on,on a warm day, and they are better in the wet than the dunlops!) I used maxxis Z1's on my old vRS, (and the nangkangs in winter) and will compaire this way...

the "feel" of the dunlops is good, they have sharp turn in, good feedback through the wheel, and are progressive at the limit...

the problem is the limit, the have about 40% of the dry weather grip of the maxxis tyres, and about 50% of the wet weather grip of the maxxis, even worse, in the wet (although they cut deep water fine) the ultimate grip is even less than the nangkang winters on a WARM wet day, when the winters had just 3 mill of grip left...

appalling..... it ruins the car when pushing on, I have a track day comming up, where i will see how they react when properly punished, but I am sure they will be on ebay in Nov when I put winters back on, and I'll order some more maxxis Z1's that cost half as much, and are twice as good!

I REALLY wouldnt reccomend these dunlops unless all you drive is motorways.

Given 86% while driving a Audi A6 Avant 2.7T Quattro (245/40 R18 W) on mostly motorways for 10,000 spirited miles
Amazing grip and cornering no matter if it's wet or dry. If performance with safety is your concern, this tyre will take some beating.

Given 83% while driving a Volvo S40 2.0T (205/50 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 30,000 spirited miles
It is a real high performance tyre. Excellent hangling in dry and wet conditions at the limit. Correct tyre pressure is important to get what you want.

Given 53% while driving a Ford FPV GT P (245/35 R19 W) on a combination of roads for 12,000 spirited miles
Had these factory fitted on my FPV GT-P. Dangerous in the wet once worn down a bit and the tyre will just let go when loosing grip. Decent in dry but suffers from tram tracking on some uneven surfaces, makes quite a bit of noise and slips quite easily with a 570Nm of torques. Moved on to PZero's that are better in every respect although can not comment on wear just eyt.

Given 57% while driving a Audi A6 (245/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 7,000 average miles
recommended by Audi and Fitted by them. The tyres have lasted about 7000. 2 On front tyres and had old front ones on the back. Not impressed as now need to replace 4 tyres and expected Dunlop to last a bit longer
