Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tyre tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

Given 46% while driving a Nissan X Trail 2.2 DCi Sport (215/45 R16 H) on mostly country roads for 12,000 easy going miles
These were fitted to the front axle of a 2003 Nissan X-Trail. At the rear were Scorpion STRs. I've never been happy with the grip in wet. The car would struggle to hold a line on bends even at moderate speeds and understeer very easily. As I've only had the car a year and these tyres were fitted from the start, I couldn't be sure if it was the car or the tyres. Turns out, it's the tyres, as I've just swapped the STRs to the front and put Michelin Cross Climates on the back. No more understeer in the wet. In fact, it holds incredibly well now. The Toyos are more of a 50/50 on- off-road tyre to be fair. But if you spend the bulk of your time on-road and drive in the wet you should avoid these.

Given 49% while driving a Honda CRV (215/65 R16) on mostly country roads for 8,000 average miles
Okay at lowish speeds in the dry but going faster or in the wet you seem to vaguely float across the tarmac. The ride is also similalrly vague, fairly comfortable, but slightly wallowly. I didnt like the feel from the word go, but assumed it was the recently acquired car, a 10 year old Honda CRV and the higher profile to the tyres. However I was genuinely shocked to find out they had really poor EU label ratings - F for wet braking - and switched to Michelin Crossclimates. Night and day difference, lower fuel consumption too.

Given 73% while driving a Skoda Yeti 4 x 4 (215/60 R16 H) on mostly motorways for 8,000 average miles
Just an average tyre, nothing exceptional. Driving comfort and breaking distance at the limit are the most weak points. Grip in snow is good compared to summer factory tyres.

Given 42% while driving a Honda CR V III (215/65 R16 H) on mostly town for 10,000 average miles
Don`t use these on the front as there is to much movement in them. you get away with them on the back but be careful in the wet as they tend to drift when cornering. Done 10000 and practically no wear.

Given 37% while driving a Lexus RX350 (235/55 R18) on mostly town for 25,000 average miles
Just an average tyre in the dry. In the wet however, these tyres became atrocious once they wore passed the half way mark. I got rid of these tyres when they still had around 30% tread because I was sick of driving like I was on ice every time it rained. Great tyre if all you care about is longevity and have no regard for anyone's safety.

Bought a set of 4 Toyo Open Country HT XL tyres for my 2003 Range Rover Vouge. They replaced Land rover recommend Goodyear Wrangler HP tyres, as the Toyo were a much cheaper option. I have been very impressed with the very quiet noise from the Toyo tyres on the motorway and A-roads. Grip in the dry has been very good. I haven't had chance to experience extreme wet yet, but they have a deep tread so I expect them to be good.

Land Rover Discovery 1 1996 (245/70 R16 H) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Hi,
I just bought a set of 4 here in Muscat, Oman for my old Landrover Discovery this morning. They cost OR60 each including balancing and full wheel alignment check. I was replacing a set of 2 year old Pirelli Scorpions, that despite worthless their 5 year warranty, were completely shagged(no longer round and lots of bumps as the steel had gone inside). I will let you know how they go !!
