Toyota Corolla E140 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Pirelli Powergy given 71% (205-55-16-)

Got this tyre to change my old Bridgestone Turanza T005A on September 2024. Compared with my old Turanza, there is no big difference between them unless the fuel consumption. With Turanza, my Corolla could achieve 1:14 km/l but with this Powergy only got 1:12 km/l. I think it's because of the pattern. But, overall it's a comfort and good tyre for your daily driven car.

I have to say right up front that i regret fitting these tires to my car , having heard many good things about the brand i wanted to try it out and did so without really looking much into it (which i regret now).
I drive a lot on the motorway and these tires as other reviews have said are extremely soft , so much in fact that the car gets easily affected by crosswinds (which mine never did before) , and they have a constant floaty sensation that really does not inspire any sort of confidence , feels like you are driving some sort of barge on a river. As for hard cornering being a soft tire they flex a lot on hard cornering to the point of feeling unsafe again , the grip itself is just ok meaning the car wont really fly off the corner but it sure feels like it will, also on hard acceleration on uneven surfaces like cobblestone streets or something it will just spin and feel really bad. This is not to say this tire is unsafe but it FEELS unsafe , the squirrely feeling on the highway , crosswind sensitivity and such really makes for a white knuckle driving experience.I really want to stress the negatives because really it surprised me having heard all my life that Michelin makes the best tires on the market (the cost sure is up there) , it came as a shock to me how bad they performed when fitted, being a touring tire and all i thought they would excel at highway driving but they in fact did not.
There are however some positives that maybe could work for you , if you exclusively drive on city i don't think they will bother you none, and the wet grip is better than average to be honest , i believe you can get some 40 or 50 thousand kilometers on these tires , being soft they will be comfortable over bumps provided you don't drive fast. The price may be an issue as they are not exactly cheap tires you can just fit and don't feel bad about spending money on it, if you really want to try them out and see what the fuss is about i say wait for a discount as they can be found cheaper sometimes. Maybe some cars will also accept this tire better and feel just fine, maybe it would even be an upgrade for some cars but in my case it really didn't work out.

Driving on mostly motorways for 7 easy going miles
I live in Athens-Greece and i wear these winter tires only from December to March. I make several travels to Ski Centers and to mountainous snowy villages. This is the second year i use these tires, and i've made about 15.000 km. In comparison with my previous tires (Goodyear ultragrip 8), i think they are worse in snowy roads. But something strange happened just two days ago. While driving on wet, narrow road with several turns, the car slipped 3 times with slow speed, about 45-50 km/h. I was scared and worried about how safe is to continue using these tires.

Uncompromising grip on all types of winter surfaces. Out of competition on the ice tracks. Very low noise level, audible only at low speeds when driving on a clean road. With these tires, it is very difficult to achieve ABS actuation. Perfectly copes with leaving the track. After running-in in compliance with the manufacturer's recommendations, the studs took their position and after 15,000 km remain in place. I recommend to buy, the best studded tire.

I drove my car about 700km with combination roads (asphalt, pave, also little bit dirt road). FYI, my Turanza series is T005A which is made in Indonesia. I felt quieter than my previous tyre (Ecopia EP150), also greater handling too. In wet road condition, i feel there is no big differences. So far, I'm satisfied with my new tyres and I'm enjoying it to drive more far! But, this tyre has the highest price in my country in it's class. Also, this tyre get dirty easily on it's sidewall especially if you drive it on the dirt road.

Feel not so good for handling also noisy in my 2011 Corolla. But, i feel there's no difference about the grip at the wet or dry road. Also there are many cases in my country (Indonesia) for this tyre exploded/broken even just used on small MPV or hatcback, it happened on my Corolla too. Maybe just not suitable for Indonesian road (bumpy even at highway).
