BMW (255/35 R19 W) on mostly country roads for 5,000 spirited miles
2020. Good grip when dry. Poor in wet. Try something else.

Very noisy and uncomfortable. I only got 10,000 miles on my new Merc on the rear tyres. Front still 70% good. NOT an aggressive driver. 80 years of age.!!!. Changed all 4 to ordinary tyres. The best decision ever. I now appreciate the finer qualities of my new E220 AMG.

This is the first pirelli and first runflat that i’ve driven on. Dry grip is perfect, progresive, you can really feel the road, you get the feedback. But then, this tyre is a nightmare on wet roads, especially on faster roads with lot of standing water. Had a couple of really scary moments. I have them on my bmw 318d rwd (my2020) for about 5000 km, the wear is ok, but would not consider buying then ever again. Summary- dry handling perfect, wet handling disaster.

Given 73% while driving a BMW 520d M Sport (275/35 R19 W) on for 15,000 miles
These lasted 15k on the rears and as they are run flat they were good tyres. I had 2 puncture repairs with no issues otherwise it would have been 2 new tyres so run flats are well worth it.

Dry handling excellent
Wet handling good
Aquaplaining the tyres held firm
Fairly progressive when driving aggressive
Comfort levels were good for a run flat as much as they can be
I would buy again but not for £280 per tyre and seeing they are E for fuel efficient and B for wet grip I will try another tyre.

Given 56% while driving a BMW 120d M sport (215/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
I purchased my car with these already fitted. They are 6 months old with approx 5-6mm of tread depth.
They are very comfortable for a runflat, not too noisy and dry grip is good.
They are progressive in the dry.
Wet grip is average and they don't clear standing water very well. This has led to a couple of very scary moments in heavy rain on faster roads.
I think I will replace with something else when the time comes. Rarely have I driven on a tyre which lacks so much water shifting ability, I can only imagine how bad they will be once the tread wears down.

Given 64% while driving a BMW 440i Gran Coupe M Sport (225/40 R19 W) on for 13,000 spirited miles
Pro: good response, not as harsh as expected at 2.8 bars all around.
Cons: bad handling on wet roads even if the tire is at good temperature, the tread is worn off after 15000 km, mostly on the rear 245/35/19 and i have an xdrive.
The most upseting thing is that after contact with a pothole everytime i have a bulge or the tire is cut at the contact point with the rim. I changed 3 times the left front tire and the left rear still has a small bulge on the shoulder. I will not buy this tire again.

Given 51% while driving a Mercedes Benz C300 (255/35 R19) on a combination of roads for 3,500 average miles
Tyres are good in the dry, but noticeably lack grip in the wet, wheels can spin even under less than firm acceleration. The ride is comfortable enough, but could be better. The tyre noise is probably the worst aspect of these tyres, but all run flats are louder than their non-run flat counterpart, but they seem to be wearing quite well.

Given 69% while driving a BMW 530i (275/35 R18 W) on mostly town for 8,000 easy going miles
My BMW has a staggered set up, 275/35 18 on the rear and 245/40 18 front.
I previously had Dunlop SP01 RoFs which were awful, tramlined, very hard tyres which lasted.
These Pirelli’s were a marked improvement in my BMW 530i.
Comfortable for run flats, and no tramlining. Noise was acceptably low.
Steering feel was excellent. Starting and stopping in the dry was sure footed.
Strangely I felt wet grip to be less good than the Dunlop’s.
Sadly this tyre lasted for around 8000 miles (15 months) of mixed relaxed driving.
I changed these to Michelin PS2 ZP.

Given 81% while driving a BMW 335d (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 20 average miles
An update from my earlier review. My 335d xdrive bought in (Jan 2017) with 225/40-R19 front and 255/35-R19 rear run-flats has now done 20,000 miles on these original tyres. They are down to about 5mm tread depth, so just over half-worn, and would therefore expect 30 - 35,000 miles, which is good. Grip is as good as ever. Yes, car is 4WD, but always gripped in swift get-aways on love in wet or dry. It was necessary to make an emergency stop, such that brake lights flashed and hazards came on - it was very undramatic and the car stopped quickly with no noise or drama. The comfort is good, although we do have good roads around here in North Wales. I shall probably buy the same again.

Given 70% while driving a Mercedes Benz C250 CDI Blutec (225/45 R19) on mostly town for 6,000 average miles
I know the roads are in poor condition after a very harsh winter, but I am angry and frustrated about how these tyres have let me down of late. 5 weeks ago the front offside completely blew out when hitting a pothole leaving us stranded by the roadside (no spare wheel!!) and requiring recovery. The very same, new tyre has now blown out in the same way (6cm split at the junction with the wheel rim) once again leaving us stranded and having to abandon a journey, not to mention the cost of recovery, damage to the wheel rim and the car being off the road while the wheel is taken to a tyre shop. These failures make a mockery of the run-flat claim. The original tyre had only 6000 miles on a 20 000 total, my other tyres have always gone close to 20k mileage before replacement so wear was not good. I will never buy run-flat again or be left without a spare wheel option. Not fit for purpose.

Given 44% while driving a Mercedes Benz C220 CDI Blue Eff. auto (255/55 R19 W) on mostly motorways for 13,800 average miles
On a Mercedes C220d BE Estate Auto.
The tyres give no warning before they let go. They slide with a rumble feeling and in anything from damp to wet are useless.
They’ve been on a brand new car for 13800 and they are now to the wear bar.
I’ve had nothing but bad experience with Pirelli, and will not buy again.

Given 24% while driving a BMW 335d (225/45 R18) on a combination of roads for 12,000 miles
By far the worst tyres I’ve ever had on a car. I’ve had my 335d from new and covered 12000 miles, luckily I have a maintenance pack that covers tyres.
In my 11 years and 30-40k miles a year driving experience I have never owned a tyre so stiff and unforgiving that it sounds like you’ve ran into a tree every time you go over a cats eye.
I do not aim to go through pot holes, but they are sometimes unavoidable, I have not once in my driving career damaged a tyre - but since owning these Pirelli’s I have split the sidewall on 2 left hand front tyres and 1 right hand front in that 12000 miles. Luckily the maintainance pack has allowed me to put Michelin’s on now, which have improved the ride significantly, and I have not yet suffered from a huge blowout (which I did with the Pirelli’s)
I will never ever buy a Pirelli tyre again in my life.
