Land Rover Discovery 4 Tyres

Fresh set fitted before I bought the Discovery 4, initial impression was positive - a good summer tyre with no bad habits on tarmac. As Winter arrived my view changed, they are vague on damp roads and standing water is a nightmare, don’t even bother on anything slippy off-road. Ice/slush is beyond their remit. At 50% worn they are being scrapped and replaced with my preferred 4x4 tyre - Pirelli Scorpion.

Bought to replace Pirelli Scorpion Z on a Discovery 4. Dry grip is good, just as good as the Pirelli. I find the Davanti more sure footed in the wet than the Pirelli were. They are wearing extremely well, I expect them to last at least 35k miles given current wear patterns. Off road they perform better than the Pirelli, and as good as BFG AT I had on my Defender. They outperform Bridgestone Duellers. I was expecting a little more noise than the road-orientated Pirelli, but they are extremely quiet tyres for a genuine AT pattern. Price wise these can't be beaten, they fulfil all my requirements and are substantially less expensive and just as good as the dearer options.

Such a poor tyre, these came on the car when I bought and had about 8mm of tread remaining and I was initially pleased as Bridgestone is a reputable brand. During the summer these were good on warm dry roads, the car was however susceptible to tram lining on motorways, I initially put this down to the width of the tyres, how wrong I was.
Once the weather changed my opinion on these tyres changed drastically, the car would dangerously aquaplane on the slightest amount of water and became difficult to control in bad weather, made driving extremely uncomfortable. The slightest amount of mud at the side of the roads was also enough to cause the wheels to lock up under slight braking, I drive mostly on country roads in the Scottish Highlands. My wife's VW Tiguan on Uniroyal Rainsport 5's does not exhibit these traits on the same roads, a far more safe and confident drive.
At my work we have a discovery 4 as well and it runs on Goodyear duratracs and does not exhibit these handling traits in poor weather so it can be directly attributed to the tyres.
Also they are wearing fast, 5000 miles done and 5mm tread gone from the front so its time to change before the winter, 3mm left on the front and 5mm on the back and they have been changed for Goodyear's as I've never had any problems with them.

Lasted pretty long: 5 years and 70000 km. Now the tread is between 3-5mm. Good tire. No problems with it apart, that some tire-shops don't get the balancing right at first try.
However it does not matter, because the tire is discontinued AFAIK.

Pirelli scorpion AT plus on 2015 Land Rover discovery. Wow what a tyre, grip wet or dry is second to NONE. Handling, comfort, real lack of road noise is better than ANY other tyre. Seriously. I’m a retired truck driver so l have done some miles. Just put another set on my car, 62500 klm on last set and still had maybe 10000 to go. Most of those klms towing a 2 and a half tonne caravan. Can not fault this tyre, we did a load of outback dirt corrugated roads without a problem. Shop around as price can vary, but just get these tyres on you car, promise you will not be disappointed.

Good AT/Mud tyres. Even with 3 mountain pikes with snowflake symbol on them, no good on snow due lack of lamells on blocks, no grip on ice becose no lamells and spikes.
Tyrewear is slow and hard enough on rocks not to worrie about sharp edges pierce them. Looks nice on LR4 with sidegrip treads.

I was talked to getting Hancock Dyna Pro AT2 tires from Bob Jane and I wish I'd never heard of them.
The tires have good traction and all the things that you desire, but the road noise from them in the cabin is just a terrible drumming noise that drives you nuts. I've driven about 40,000 km on it and enough is enough I can't stand it anymore.
I'll either go to Toyo's that I've had for years on our other vehicles or Pirelli's but not Hancook anymore.

Feel very sure footed, very good in the wet, and amazing off road! It's a disco, so doesn't do speed really..

Always had these on my LR Disco 4, sure footed in the snow, only really average 15000-20000 miles a set, probably more down to stye of driving, poor roads and taking roundabouts too fast (edges wear rapidly, but rotate front to back after 8-10k)

Fitted to Landrover Discovery 4. Fine in the dry, aquaplanes easily in wet, and terrifying in even light snow. Noise is very low except for where the road has the slots across it to aid braking, where it resonates, sometimes badly. The snow and wet performance is so poor, I am replacing these tyres midlife.

DO NOT BUY. CONTINENTAL DOES NOT STAND BEHIND WARRANTY. Tires lasted approximately 27k miles, very light, around the town driving. Called to complain about the lack of mileage and to ask about the 60k mile warranty. Was given the run around by Joe. Continental wants you to jump through hoops and to buy there tires again before they decide if they will prorate old tires. Side not, dealership who installed tires also contacted Continental and was given same runaround.
