A GREAT YEAR ROUND TYRE.
These tyres have been GREAT in all weather conditions. I had them fitted 2years ago and have done just over 20k. (Rotated approx 5-6k ago) and still have another 1-2k in them.
Particularly impressed with its performance in the snow/ice – the grip was always there, felt controlled and safe. It handled hills and snow/ice covered roads no problem (left other cars sliding!)
Had a little trouble at first with the balancing giving some wobble (3 garages tried to smooth it out but failed)- so put on the rear for 1k but have been fine since!
I’m a young driver and have given the tyres a thrashing on occasion and they have never let go.
Road noise is the only let down, slightly more than I’ve had in the past (Continental Contact 2's) and seems to be slightly harder but when a tyre lasts 25k+ and the performance has never failed what more can you want!
…I just wish they weren’t £140+ per corner!

Given 43% while driving a Chrysler People Carrier (215/65 R16) on mostly country roads for 15,000 easy going miles
We Have a CHRYSLER GRAND VOYAGER, 215 65 16, and these were fitted as standard. I would say THIS is where the Grand Voyager gets it’s bad press from, (as regards handling). The only good thing to say for these tyres is the wear rate. But then you can’t/daren’t put them under pressure so you will save rubber. Of course there is the time when you’ll NEED to put them under pressure, and they’ll be away… even in the dry. The side walls are too soft, but the danger point is in the wet. Even a shallow puddle will bring a lump, not to your throat, but to another bit of you anatomy that you may be sitting on.
Look at the tread pattern, when water is channelled into the grooves… then what, where does it go from there? Back underneath the rubber thereby lifting you off the road surface, commonly known as aquaplaning. And this is the worst aspect of these tyres. Yes it will lose the water when it lifts off the surface, but you need a clear contact while it’s touching the road.
When I used to rally, there were companies that followed the event around that hand cut tread in tyres to your own spec/pattern. If I found to my misfortune that I had to use NCT5’s again, I’d root out such a device and have ‘V’ grooves cut in over the top to channel the water away, similar to how Goodyear have done their F1 GSD3 and Uniroyal their Rain sport/experts. Yes I am a directional tyre fan, but there is good reason. NCT5’s may be ok in California, but in the wet watch out.

Nothing exciting. Reasonable grip in wet and dry. Poor in the snow.

Given 29% while driving a Honda City (190/60 R15) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
Grip is average in dry conditions & has a tendency to break away suddenly when cornering.

In the wet, aquaplaning performance is average but grip is near non-existence when breaking....very dangerous.

In operation, it's unbearably noisy too

Stay away from these tyres.

I was happy with these tyres until the inside wall of a rear tyre split. You'd have to see it to believe it but there were 3 splits ranging from 1cm to 10cm. Could be a once off but deinately a tyre fault. This happened with 5mm of thread still remaining.

Given 54% while driving a BMW 5 Series M Sport ( E60 ) (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 31,000 spirited miles
Dangerous behaviour on wet road, where the progressiveness is close to null.

I've been teached it in a curve and by luck was able to stop my car before the wall.

Good tyres in other condition yet, I got them for 31000 miles before I need to change them.

Given 80% while driving a Vauxhall Vectra (215/50 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 25,000 average miles
Bought the car 2nd hand with 20k on the clock and it already had Goodyear NCT5's fitted. Front tyres needed replacing immediately so I replaced them like for like, but the rears had plenty left. Over the past 2 years I have done 25000 on them and all four still have roughly 3 - 4mm left, so can't complain about wear! Very happy with grip in both wet and dry, but not a huge amount of feedback from the road unless you hit a bump - comfort levels aren't great. Overall, a good all round tyre, but a may consider something else simply for the comfort levels.

Given 69% while driving a BMW 123d (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 40,000 spirited miles
This set was the original one mounted by BMW. Definetly not the set I was dreaming of. They were ROF kind of tyres. In general I did not dislike them but on a quite sporty and "amusing" car like the 123d they were not suiting right! The back become very "light" on wet conditions and force you to reduce the speed. I would say good tyres but wrong for this type of car. Pity that BMW was not aware of it.

Given 80% while driving a Fiat Stilo (195/65 R15 V) on mostly motorways for 41,000 average miles
These were the third front/second rear set of tyres on one of our two Fiat Stilo 1.6 MultiWagons, fitted at 62K miles, fronts now being replaced at 103K, rears probably have another 10K in them.
Good points: Good all-round performers on a mixture of 2/3rd motorway and 1/3rd local country road driving. Grip well in dry and wet. Tyre wear has been minimal. Corner well on country roads.
Bad points: Road noise is evident at even modest speeds.
Streets ahead of the wandering and quickly wearing Avon ZV3's fitted as a replacement on our other Stilo.
