Questions and Answers for the Hankook iON Evo

2023-07-04 - Still no review for this EV tyre from customers? No review from tyrereviews.com? It was released last year and the only test available is the AutoBild partial test.

Nope. EV tests are currently very difficult to do fairly due to restricted sizes of EV tyres and a lot of them being OE tuned so it's not a correct comparison. As soon as I can do one I will be.

Top 3 Hankook iON Evo Reviews

Given 83% while driving a Tesla Model 3 Performance (235/35 R20) on a combination of roads for 300 average miles
I had the Hankook ION Evo tires installed to replace the stock Pirelli P Zero (PZ4) Elect tires on my Tesla Model 3 Performance.
There are pros and cons compared to the stock Pirelli tires:

Pros:

- Quieter
- More comfortable
- Better grip in rain and wet conditions
- Slightly lighter steering feel
- Slightly easier acceleration straight of the line
- More efficient (+/- 1% less battery consumption per trip)

Cons:

- Steering feel and response are less direct
- Grip during hard cornering is not great
- Overall sportiness is diminished

For the daily (very) sporty driver, it may not be recommended, but for anyone outside this category, it is definitely worth considering.

Given 84% while driving a Tesla 2024 Model 3 RWD (235/45 R18) on a combination of roads for 6,000 average miles
I recently swapped out the Michelin e Primacy tires that came standard with my vehicle and am thoroughly impressed with my decision. The e Primacy tires were undoubtedly quiet and comfortable, boasting incredibly low rolling resistance. However, their performance in wet conditions left much to be desired. I experienced fish tailing occasionally while navigating curves in the rain, which didn't inspire much confidence in wet weather.

Enter the Hankook Ion Evo. After a 1000km break-in period, these tires have proven to be a noticeable improvement. They offer enhanced comfort and maintain the same serene quietness that I appreciated about the e Primacy. This improvement does come with a slightly higher trade-off in rolling resistance. Typically, on my usual routes, I achieved a minimum energy consumption of 9x Wh/km with the e Primacy. However, with the Ion Evo, this rises modestly to 10x Wh/km.

Despite this, I wholeheartedly recommend the Hankook Ion Evo for daily driving, especially for those prioritizing comfort and performance in wet conditions.

Given 80% while driving a Tesla Model 3 LR (235/40 R19) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
Good overall tyre, but not great, it's more towards eco with good range and low rolling resistance. Wet grip is not too good, but it's very progressive on the limit. Comfortable tyres for daily use.

Given 61% while driving a Tesla Model 3 LR (235/40 R19) on a combination of roads for 20,000 average miles
It's a good quiet and comfortable tyre for my EV, however the grip is quite limited compared to PS4 or PS5. A bit of an unfair comparison but I feel grip is the most important rather than comfort. Dry grip is just slightly above average, wet grip is average.

Was swerving to avoid an object on the road, the tyre screeched loudly and provided just barely enough grip during that situation. If it was ps4 or ps5 in the same situation, there probably will not be any screeching and would have plenty of grip left over.
