275/65 18 Tyre Review Highlights

Nokian Outpost AT rated 76% while driving a Ford F 150
Driving on a combination of roads for 5 easy going miles
I drive on these tires for nearly 6,000 miles in Pennsylvania, through all types of weather. My initial thoughts were that the ride was solid and sure footed with good handling in dry and wet pavement conditions. I would occasionally spin on wet pavement when starting from a dead stop and on a slight uphill grade. That should have been my first clue as to what I was in for with snow and ice traction. Traction in deeper snow isn't too bad and was according to expectations for an all terrain tire with a reasonably aggressive tread design. Ice traction (and I realize that nothing gives you great ice traction) is miserably treacherous. I recently took a trip into the mountains of south central Pennsylvania on a snowy day. Roads were untreated and there were only tire worn ruts in the snow down to what appeared to be bare asphalt pavement. On slight to moderate uphill grades, my drive axle (rear) tires would break free and I would start to fishtail while exerting very little accelerator pedal pressure. (This was in a 2022 Ford F150 4WD pickup truck with no significant weight in the bed of the truck.) Under conditions where I would not normally have to do so, I had to put the truck in 4WD and use the "Slippery" drive mode, which mutes accelerator response, and the ride became a little less "white knuckled." I've been driving for almost 50 years and have driven well over a million miles and these tires provide the worst ice traction of any tire I've ever driven on. In addition, the ride is noisier and my drop off in fuel efficiency has been more significant than expected based on review that I read. I cannot yet speak to how they will wear, but I'm just hopeful that I survive through the next couple of winter seasons to find out. It's good thing I'm a cautious and reasonably skilled driver.

I would not buy these tires again.

Driving on a combination of roads for 250 spirited miles
I only have 250 miles on these but so far I am blown away. Road noise is almost non existent even at 80+ mph and they handle incredibly well in all types of weather. The rain and snow is their bread and butter though. Pot holes and bumps aren’t any more noticeable than my stock Michelin Primacy XC AT tires that came on my 2023 F-150. I would put these in the top 5 AT tires that have ever been released!

Nokian Outpost nAT rated 88% while driving a Ford F 150
Driving on a combination of roads for 600 easy going miles
I've have these tires on my truck for several hundred miles now. My initial thoughts are as follows... They provide a firm ride and feel very "sure footed" on dry and wet pavement, with regards to starting, cornering and braking. On the highway, they are a little noisier and the ride is a little rougher when compared to the OEM tires that I replaced (Goodyear Territory AT's that I thought were garbage.) The treat is much more aggressive on the Outpost AT's, so that was to be expected. The have performed well on wet and muddy logging roads. Those logging roads are a bit "washboardy" and the tires didn't smooth out the bumps well. Perhaps a change in tire pressure would help. I'm running them at 35 psi (cold.) I'm also losing a little bit of fuel economy. That being said, I mounted these tires heading into colder weather and my truck (as with any vehicle) loses fuel economy during colder weather. I haven't run them in winter weather conditions yet and will update this when I do. So far, I'm reasonably pleased.

Nokian Outpost nAT rated 78% while driving a Toyota Tundra 2021
Driving on a combination of roads for 17000 spirited miles
Phenomenal traction EVERYWHERE. Best all around tire I've had on any of my trucks or SUV's. But I wouldn't recommend them.. For an All Terrain tire, its also the best I've driven on in the snow, leaning on it's snow-covered roots I suppose. On dry and wet roads, it handles exceptionally well with good steering and road feedback. Road manners may even be considered excellent. They make a little noise - as AT tires do - but it is a broad spectrum noise rather than a hum or buzz that is barely perceptible at around 40 mph, but doesn't grow exponentially louder with an increase in speed; instead, it almost declines around 70 mph where engine and wind noise take over. The ride isn't soft, nor firm - but right where you'd expect it to be and provides enough comfort for heavy loads and/or daily driving. They handle heavy loads well, but not as well as say, Cooper AT3 LT tires that are designed to haul and tow, with a little more squish and roll around corners when loaded. Steering is on the responsive side of neutral that allows for more precise steering making twisty mountain roads downright fun with the right suspension setup (as much as an AT tire can provide and a good set of shocks can provide on a pickup, anyways). They also handle mud and dirt MUCH better than other AT tires that I've run - much more than I would expect - digging for traction where I expect them to gum up and tap out. They do like to pick up gravel stones and toss them once you reach highway speeds, but, again, most AT tires do that. They are wearing a little faster than I'd expect, but not horribly so, and are usually a bit out of balance by 4,000 miles before I have them balanced and rotated at 5,000 miles.

So why on Earth wouldn't I recommend them to everybody? Why am I writing and End of Life review at only 17,000 miles and not a Mid-Life Review? Simply put - the include Road Hazard Warranty is useless. I picked up a nail in the sidewall that is obviously not repairable; Nokians Road Hazard warranty should cover the tire (and it would according to tire shop...) BUT... Nokian is not currently producing the tire in my size LT275/65R18 and is backordered for the foreseeable future. Whether I have to purchase a new tire or it's covered under their warranty doesn't matter since I cannot acquire the tire either way. So I have three good tires and one that cannot be repaired or driven on. Last I checked, my truck needed four tires to run down the road so I'm forced to purchase an entirely new set of tires. I depend on the vehicle to get me out the door in the morning and back home at night, sometimes logging hundreds of miles in a day with gear in the bed and a trailer in tow, no matter the road conditions. Nokian can't even get me back on the road with a very popular and regular tire size. Thus, I wouldn't recommend the tire to anybody. Unfortunately for me, I run the same size tire in a P-rating on my Sequoia and am hoping I don't happen upon any other road hazards with that vehicle or I might be out two sets of tires.

BFGoodrich All Terrain TA KO3 rated 88% while driving a Chevrolet silverado 1500
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 spirited miles
Much better than the factory Goodyear Duratrac regarding road noise and road comfort. The dry grip is better on roads. Has not rained enough here since I got them to provide a comprehensive review of wet traction but the one or two times they performed well. We will see what this winter brings regarding ice and snow traction. Hopefully I will be able this review after I get firewood on rough muddy / snow mountain forest service roads and after I drive it on our very icy winter roads. Here in Wyoming the DOT uses a sand, gravel mix with a little bit of salt because salt doesn't work below zero. Hopefully this tires increased silica content and siping will perform as well as my old KO2's.

Nokian Outpost nAT rated 97% while driving a Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
Early impressions of the Nokian Outpost nAT are extremely positive after 2k miles of mixed weather and surfaces. Having previously traveled 40k miles on my OE BFG KO2 fitment, I was keen to try an alternative All-Terrain tire. The KO2 had become overly noisy, lacked wet grip, and were awful in packed snow and ice. Most striking, the nAT proved to be as quiet as the passenger car tires on my other vehicles. At speed, wind and engine note now dominate the audible experience rather than tire roar. Our local weather has seen 8” of snow one week and near 80d F the next, with some heavy rain tossed in the mix as well. The Nokian’s have exceeded my high expectations in all conditions. Their performance has been nothing short of confidence inspiring, a vast improvement over the KO2.
