Federal SS595 SUPER STEEL Reviews - Page 10

Given 91% while driving a Ford Falcon xr6 (245/45 R17 V) on mostly town for 2,000 average miles
Great dry grip, braking and quiet. Great front end grip. Much better than the dunlops on it from new. Drives well in wet and only complaint is the wheels can spin from take off on a wet road.

I went from a 205/40 16 inch Yokohama Parada Spec C to these tyres. The Yokohama's have great dry grip, poor wet, terrible snow and are noisy. These have a lot lower dry grip, about same wet grip and better snow grip due to tread pattern. They are slightly more narrow of course and higher sidewall. They start to slide early but are very progressive, though they do make the howling noise when sliding more than the Yokohama's which causes unwanted attention.

They don't have any wow factor but are fine, nothing outstanding but nothing terrible either. My car is light so no wear issues even with lots of slippage when driving in spirited manner.

These tyres came fitted on the car when purchased, and the only positive thing about them is they seem to wear quite well.

Dry grip was reasonable, although they got a bit squirmy when pushed. However wet grip was rather poor, and wet braking was atrocious. In the interests of safety I eventually replaced the tyres (with 4mm tread remaining)

I personally would avoid buying these tyres, they are simply an accident waiting to happen.

Goood grip and price, But damn noisy. Really noisy.
Maybe good for track only.

Worst tyres I ever had. Avoid them at any cost, don't get fooled by the looks of them. They don't grip at all, especially in the wet. They had a nice grip for the first 2000 miles, and they became like plastic. Utter robbish.

After roasting a set of Falken FK452's in under 5000 miles I decided to try the Federal SS595. Quite a wide tyer compared to the Falkens, definately fills the wheel out more. Quite alot of noise but for the price all round performance is very good. Quite a low treadwear index (240) but wearing reasonably well. Have done 6000 so far and they should be good for another 3-4 thousand. Definately a decent budget tyre - just the noise lets them down a little

I feel this tyre is noisy as compare to others tyres. However the dry grip is very good. Wear is alot faster too. To me, it is not that comfortable due to the road noise.

Given 50% while driving a Skoda Fabia vRS (205/45 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
lasted really well, but wet grip was very poor and dry grip not a great deal better.

They certainly look the biz with the nice V shape grove pattern but im not sure buying a tyre for its look is something we should be doing

The other thing was that as soon as they started to wear (even just a bit) the overall performance really took a nose dive.

Never felt confident with these tyres as you just never know when they are going to loose grip or squirm the car about - sometimes felt like there were ruts in the road causing the car to veer (which there were not btw!)

budget tyre only

Given 71% while driving a MG ZT T (190) (225/45 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 30,000 average miles
These federal tyres had just been fitted to my MG ZT when I purchased it. They lasted 29,000 miles which I was amazed at. A bit noisy at slow speeds but for the money 10/10.
I have replaced them with Vredestein Ultrac's which are quieter, and turn in stronger but they were twice the price. I just hope they last as long.

Given 17% while driving a Porsche Boxster 2.5 (205/50 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
These were on my 17inch 205/50/17 wheels at the front when i first bought the boxster. And they sounded like a propeler they were so noisy and absolute rubbish. I soon switched to Goodyear eagle NCT 5 and it felt like I had a new car the Goodyears were so quiet compared to these.

In fairness these are a budget tyre and value for money if you just want to drive in and around town and motorways as cheap as possible. But if you want a quite performance tyre then these are not it.

Given 87% while driving a Audi A4 (235/45 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 29,315 average miles
I bought these tyres from "My Tyres" website for ?200.80 all in and was very pleased how long they lasted, 29315 miles in 2 years!! The tyres did get very noisy just before I replaced them but after fitting Continental Contact Sports on the front and Event WL905s to the rear the noise went straight away and the ride was a lot smoother. I will be interested to see how these tyres compare to the Federals but so far so good. I hope this review was useful to you.
