The UK trackday favourite, the Toyo R888 has just been replaced by Toyo R888R, and it's a very good looking tyre. While the outgoing R888 will continue to be produced in certain sizes, the new R888R promises to improve the R888 in every area.
Building on what made the R888 so popular, the R888R looks to keep the all round flexibility for both road and track use, while dramatically improving on the dry-track grip and consistency lap after lap.
Available in two compounds, the R888R GG is fully compliant with the EU tyre labelling laws, making is one of the only track day tyres you can now legally drive to and from the circuit. The second compound, the R888R SG is only road approved in certain sizes, and is designed for higher grip on lighter cars such as Caterhams and Westfields.
Launching in 32 sizes, if the new Toyo R888R can offer improved heat management and higher dry grip as promised, Toyo should once again take the lead in the trackday tyre market.
More updates as soon as we've tested the new tyre!
