265/70 17 Tyre Review Highlights

Antares GRIP 60 ice rated 69% while driving a Dodge ram 1500
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 spirited miles
Surprisingly decent for the money. I got these from a local shop last February and had them mounted for use this winter. Compared to the Toyo AT3 I ran last winter, the increased ice performance is noticeable. They aren't close to blizzak performance, but at a tax in price of $180.25 per tire with studs vs the blizzak LT at $396 per tire, I can live with that. Living in atlantic Canada, I've had the chance to test these in basically every condition imaginable, and while they aren't winning any awards, I'm also not dead and haven't crashed. I've even taken them into some mild offroading to take my dog into a quarry she loves to play in and they held up well. After 5000km they haven't worn noticeably and aside from 2 studs I ripped out climbing some rocks offroad, they haven't had any stud retention issues whatsoever. If you want a top of the line tire, this isn't it, but they do well enough for the cost that you can do much worse (and trust me, I've seen much worse winter tires for more money)

I'm driving a 98 K1500 Z71 with a single cab and a full size box with 4x4. Using rims from a 2011 instead of the 16in OEM rims, but tire size is basically the same with a little bit less positive offset.

First, these tires replaced the Cooper AT3s that were on the market right before the AT3 4S replaced them. I'll talk a little about those tires. The original tires were trash in 2wd. The first time driving them home in the dry and the truck moved left and right on it's own and needed constant correction until the AT tires broke in on the side lugs (wore down enough). Then it was straight shooting. In the snow I had to use 4wd or I'd be SOL. That said I did have a time when snow dumped on me while driving and I needed to stop on a hill and get going again in 2wd and it did it with a light pedal input - though I didn't feel confident in it. If I tried stopping in 2wd in the snow I would slide like crazy and blow into an intersection. Getting going in 2wd was terrible. Sometimes I'd need 4wd just to get out of a turn lane and then I'm stuck in 4wd on the clean hwy. If I had it in 4wd, then I was golden in these old tires. Drove 50-60 in the snow and it was a bull tearing through anything I had in front of it. In the wet they were great - drove 70 tailing a semi as we flew by everyone else going 50 in a huge rainstorm.

Now to these tires. Amazing, period! Right out the gate they were true and centered - no corrections needed. They felt very much like the Crossclimate2s I have on another vehicle in the wet/dry. In the rain they feel confident. They basically improved all aspects of the generation that I had prior to these (I think it's My Original AT3s - The 4S - Then these Road and Trails). Finally have been able to take them into snow. Wow. I drove a distance of 70 miles in about an inch to 2 inch of snow where one lane was covered and one was decently open in 2wd. I never would have tried that in this truck before. I had a car trying to pass me in the snow-covered lane and they were spinning their wheels. I hit it down from 60 to 65 to get away from them and then slowed back to 60. They had to pull in behind me again. And I was just sitting there in 2wd with no issues getting going. If the snow had been heavy I would for sure get it in 4wd, but I'm really impressed for it not being a snow tire. Getting going in 2wd with a snow-covered road is no problem and stopping on one going 35 feels like I'm just on dry pavement and I hit the brakes hard to test this. I've never felt that before in a truck like this. I'm really waiting on a snowstorm to test the 4wd better, but if they're this good in 2wd then 4wd will be crazy good. The biggest issue for a vehicle like mine that doesn't have auto-4wd is that you have to decide when 2wd is safe/you won't get stuck in uncleared turn lanes. These tires have fixed that problem for me and I can run them in the summer, which I need to here and there.

I was expecting a lot from this tire unfortunately i was highly disappointed.
I do not recommend this tire. Its a trap it only works well the first year. I would definitely go back to BFGoodrich AT tires toughest all terrain tire ever.

General Grabber ATx rated 88% while driving a Ford F 150

265 70 17 with a snow peak. With a couple of inches of snow on the road these tires have impressive grip. I did a few stop tests and the ABS didnt even have to engage. I find them not as good as the Grabber AT2's in deeper snow but they don't make that tire anymore unfortunately. Last summer I had to tow 4000 pounds through hilly gravel roads and that tire thrived in those conditions. I didnt even need to engage 4wd for that. They are quiet on the road and have good ride comfort. I have 20,000km on them and they still have the orinal tread depth so that tells me they will last a long time in typical General fashion. The General brand of tires seem to have a reputation for wearing like iron.

General Grabber Arctic rated 95% while driving a Ford F 150

I bought these tires based on a test by Consumer Reports and it performs as CR says they do. I find they are quiet and ride comfortably on the bare road. Their snow traction is very good and that is the main reason I bought them. We salt the roads here in southern Ontario, Canada so I have not experienced much ice. If I know the weather conditions are conducive to potential ice then I stay off the road altogether.

Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 rated 47% while driving a Toyota 4runner

Assumed tires were fine as there was no issues in summer. Seem to be okay on snow but deadly on ice. Don't trust these are all season tires and don't buy them for winter. Unsafe for the road. I spun out 3x on small patches. Had to buy new tires.

Driving on mostly motorways for 2000 average miles
I found these tires on Tire Rack and had them shipped to me/installed locally. Work in construction sales, so lots of highway travel (500+miles/week) with some intermittent off roading on jobsites. 4x4 is engaged a few times per month, so a good AT tire is important. Noise is noticeable from 15mph-30mph, then disappears. Grip and comfort have been outstanding. Living in the Southeast USA, I will likely not see much snow/ice to test them in. Tire wear should be decent, as they have a mileage warranty and I am neurotic about balance and alignment. Anyways. Would recommend. Also, they are somewhat lighter than competitors (in SL configuration) and that is a big plus for me. Do not want to add a bunch of unsprung weight, even to a "truck". Cheers.

These tires have been a problem since the beginning. They have never balanced well. The tire machine will say OK for balance, but the ride quality is terrible. The steering wheel will shake around 60 mph and stop around 70 mph. I would NOT buy these again and don't recommend them to anyone.

These tires came installed on a 2004 F150 that I recently purchased. Through work I have had the opportunity to drive on A/T tires from BF Goodrich, Toyo, Nokian, Goodyear and Sumitomo, and while the Kelly Safari TSR certainly tops other brands for price, it suffers in all other categories.

Their blocky tread pattern makes for some good traction on dirt and gravel (probably comparable to premium A/T tires) but there is quite a bit of feedback over bumps in the cab. Impacts are not well damped and I find myself slowing down more than necessary over bumps to avoid a sharp jolt. While I can't really comment on wear, I have seen some folks mention 30'000 miles before replacement was required.

At highway speeds there is quite a bit of audible road noise, and the steering feels moderately vague. On snow with 4WD engaged these tires seemed to have reasonable traction, but in 2WD the truck was a handful to keep under control.

I recommend you avoid these tires unless price is your absolute top priority.
