265/30 20 Tyre Review Highlights

Firestone Firehawk Sport rated 64% while driving a Audi S5
Driving on mostly country roads for 4000 average miles
Good whilst they lasted....5 months from purchase, and less than 4,000 miles later, one nearside tyre is damaged / leaking (plus a chunk has delaminated and a crack appeared without any sign of alloy contact), and the rear nearside tyre's rim protection has cracked. I'm very annoyed; the previous Toyos I had fitted - identical specification and a similar soft rubber - experienced exactly the same local roads / potholes for over 4 years without issue, plus the tyres on our other cars haven't suffered either (running Toyo and Nexen tyres for 5 years and 7 years respectively, the latter on a very heavy 4x4).

I can only conclude that whatever material used is far too soft to deal with the state of English roads - which is not much help if you live here. Needless to say, I avoid potholes whenever possible or driving in the gutter, keep tyres at the correct pressures etc. The picture uploaded is the most concerning as there is no damage to the alloy / sign of impact to the tyre, so quite what has caused the cracking here is a mystery.

This has turned out to be the most expensive set of tyres for the mileage that I've purchased in 40 years, and I'm disappointed as these tyres seemed great at the outset in respect of handling/grip in the wet and lack of noise - my two chief criteria. I can only assume that these tyres are simply not up to the job for whatever reason, and I will be contacting the supplier to complain.

Pirelli P Zero rated 37% while driving a BMW 330 Msport
Driving on mostly town for 20 easy going miles
Crap tyre. Shocking in the wet. Even in the dry they spin. What a waste of money. Michelin destroyed them. No comparison at all. I hate to think if I was in a hurry and it’s raining.

Firestone Firehawk Sport rated 90% while driving a Audi S5
Driving on a combination of roads for 1500 average miles
Excellent tyres for wet roads - no slipping when accelerating / overtaking / cornering, or when hitting unseen standing water, or more generally, bouncing around on poorly-surfaced potholed roads - so well-suited to driving in England this Summer... Also grip well in the dry, and they're quiet at lower speeds - very important for a convertible which came with large, wide alloys and rubber-band tyres. Am also achieving more miles per gallon - never seen 33 mpg previously (30 was the best) - so as nothing else has changed, the new tyres' construction/composition must be responsible. Plus, they were attractively priced.

Have only driven 1,500 miles so far, but pleased that I took a gamble on tyres with barely any reviews available. These are certainly better than previous Toyo Proxes or Falkens, and seem to be more in line with the parent Bridgestone's tyre designs (mine are made in Poland, not Italy as the website suggests). I've long preferred Japanese tyre designs for their combination of grip, comfort and quietness, although they tend to wear down faster, after disappointing experiences with the main Italian and German offerings.

Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Plus rated 83% while driving a BMW 320D M Sport
Driving on mostly motorways for 5000 spirited miles
The vredestein ultrac vorti+ is a very good tire. The tire is well balanced and has good feedback from the road. Coming from pirelli runflats i can definetly say that the car drives far better not only more comfortable but far more grip. The biggest improvement is the wet handeling/grip. The tires perform very well in the dry but there are probably better tires for pure performance but these are fitted to my daily driver and I enjoy the tires as they are sporty enough for my needs. Be aware when buying this tire, it's quiet a heavy tire due to that it has quiet a big rolling resistance.(not the best on the mileage department).

Nankang Sportnex AS2 Plus rated 86% while driving a Audi A5 2.0TFSI Quattro
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 spirited miles
Size: 265/30/20 I’m not one to usually post reviews but after seeing the amount of negative reviews the nankangs are recieving, I had to tell you about my extremely positive experience. Honestly, these tyres are some of the best value for money / performance you can buy. I own a Audi A5 (Quattro) and the tyres perform brilliantly in wet, dry, summer and winter. Handling and feedback is very good, economy as well. I put four new ones on my car for £400.00 (£100.00 each) and got 30,000 miles out of the front pair. The backs will need replacing soon (I expect about 34,000 miles). Given they ‘cheapest’ premium tyre (Dunlop/Mitchelin/Conti) will set you back £220.00 per tyre, you really cannot complain for the performance and wear on the nankangs. I have to question some of these reviews about their performance, any tyre will slip in the wet if you’re driving like an idiot. Says more about your poor driving! If you’re debating getting these tyres, I cannot recommend them highly enough - new pair on order as I’m writing this!

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 rated 76% while driving a Audi S5
Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 spirited miles
Running these on an Audi S5 Quattro changing from Continental 5P’s. All round good performance wet, dry and even in the lower winter temps for a 20 inch summer tyre, but unfortunately they are unbelievably noisy on some road surfaces.

The continentals wore much quicker in comparison, but a much much quieter tyre ! For my mixed motorway/town driving the Goodyear’s can quickly become quite cumbersome, and whilst I enjoy the performance I’m looking forward to ditching these already.

Vredestein Ultrac Vorti rated 63% while driving a BMW Alpina B3
Driving on a combination of roads for 7000 spirited miles
I had these on a Alpina B3 2014. On the road, they coped quite well. Having big 20" rims is hell for the tyre, especially when used in a city full of potholes. They held up remarcably well (used the XL variant), much better than the Pilot Sports I had before, that developed blisters in an instant. But, from here on, there is not much positive. Took the car for a track day, after two 20 minute sessions, the tyres were done for it. While at first they where quite ok (actually I was impressed by how progressive they were at the limit), massive chunks have started to rip apart from the tread, rendering them useless.
Very, very dissapointed by a tyre that is "performance" oriented.
So, for road use, maybe, as I bought them for half the price of a set of Pilot Sport's. But anything else, NO!

Continental Sport Contact 3 rated 54% while driving a Audi A5
Driving on a combination of roads for 16000 average miles
Had these from new on an Audi A5. Now after 16,000 miles front two need replacing. Not bad considering there's 210 bhp through the front wheels and have a couple of seriously heavy laps of the Nurburgring under their belt. Dry cornering grip when warmed up is truly amazing - top marks for this. Unfortunately this is where the praise ends. Wet drip is downright dangerous (I've had a four wheel slide at 25mph on a roundabout before) and straight line acceleration grip is questionable - traction control light on at 49mph in the dry, please remember there's 'only' 210bhp, we are not talking supercar power here. Also, similar to alot of other reviews - very noisy, not particularly comfortable, thirsty on mpg, like to 'tramline' into tracks in the road and like to eat nails. Moving over to Michelin Pilot Sport 2's, after reading some good reviews, things can hopefully only get better!

Bridgestone Potenza S007 rated 71% while driving a Audi RS4 Quattro
Driving on a combination of roads for 18000 average miles
Fitted to Audi RS4 from new. 18,000 miles later and still some life left. Performance all round very good, wet and dry. Would buy again over Pirelli or Michelin if only because of wear rate and no noticeable difference....

Pirelli P Zero Silver rated 49% while driving a Audi RS4 Quattro
Driving on mostly motorways for 14000 spirited miles
I bought these to replace the original P zero on my 2013 Audi RS4. I was hoping for the same level of feel and grip but with more wear. Well I got a lot more wear but the grip levels and progressiveness are not really upto the job of giving confidence when giving the car some welly on back roads.

I have just changed all 4 for another brand. The rears had about 5mm left after 14,000miles, the fronts about 3mm. The RS4 is AWD.

These are fine if you are mainly on a motorway, otherwise be prepared for wheelspin...
