Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response Reviews - Page 7

Given 85% while driving a Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 litre TS Sp3 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 300 spirited miles
Just had 4 new 205/60 R15 V tyres fitted a few weeks ago to an Alfa 156 2.0 saloon that I have owned for 8 years. Well what a difference from the old Pire1li tyres. They are comfortable, quiet, except for riding on badly ripped up tarmac, feel very secure in wet and dry.

In fact they have transformed the car so much that in particular the front end feels like I am in completely new car. How long do they last, well no idea as I only do around 6k per year. Highly recommended and good value.

Given 87% while driving a Ford Mondeo (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
Bought for the Mondeo as the previous owner had horrendous ones on it.

I usually go for P6000's or Contact Sport 2 Continentals but after reviews and an excellent price I decided to try these, around £68 a corner for 205/55/16's.

Excellent grip on the dry and find them very good in the snow I have just now around my house.

Very responsive and quiet.

I'm not surprised the Subaru guy was disappointed, these are not a sports tyre.

Pro's

These tyres are very good in the wet, very good braking on damp and wet surfaces so the compound must be doing it's stuff, ideal for rainy England. They are also pretty good in comfort, noise and stability, you can't be annoyed with them. Handling is ok, when they do slide they slide at the amount you expect from your too high speed and don't make a high pitched squeal, more a brushing sound.

Con's

Terrible in the snow which we have just had. Where other cars have not got stuck I have, so now take a spade around with me. They are find on soft snow and slush but on hard snow and ice they really struggle. I think it is down to the number of central grooves meaning no grip from the middle of the tyre, so you only get grip from the edges. If it was a V tread all the way through like some rain tyres it would be better. Having said that it rains a lot more than snows in the UK.

Given 50% while driving a Subaru wrx turbo (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 100 spirited miles
If you've been driving a s***box with four mismatched tyres then, yes, the Fast Responses are going to feel amazing. I was incredibly disappointed. I fitted these to my WRX STi which usually runs Bridgestone Potenzas to save a bit of cash before selling the car and was immediately let down. The grip is OK, in fact once they settle down in a corner the grip levels are good, but the feel of the tyres is terrible. There's way to much flex in the sidewalls and turning in at high speed feels like being on ice. I'm not talking about a racetrack either, I'm talking about changing lanes on a freeway.

Given 87% while driving a Volvo V70 2.5 (185/60 R15 V) on mostly country roads for 10 average miles
These tyres came on my V70 when I bought it 2nd hand. I wouldn't normally buy a premium brand like Dunlop, but having a blowout on a cheap low profile tyre in my last car made me think differently. Anyway, these tyres have performed brilliantly at motorway speeds, on icy roads (even going up and down hills) and taken all sorts of country abuse (potholes, unsurfaced tracks etc) without complaint. I've just ordered another set!

Given 86% while driving a Audi A4 (225/45 R17) on mostly motorways for 10,000 easy going miles
Fitted these to an Audi A4 1.8 as when I bought it there were four mis-matched no name budget tyres on.
Have to say, that in over a years worth of motoring, these tyres have never let me down.
All through the snow/ice/bad weather over the 2009/10 period, these tyres were rock solid and gripped well. Never did the tyres feel like they were going to skid or break loose. I only got stuck once, but that was also partly my fault.
For motorway driving these tyres provide good grip and excellent feedback, especially during the rain and on wet motorways. There is a little tyre/road noise, but nothing intrusive, and nothing that will distract you.
Dry grip is excellent, wet grip is also excellent and inspires confidence.
I will definitely replace like for like when they wear out, which they show no sign of doing so yet.

Given 96% while driving a Saab Automobile 9000 aero (205/55 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 0 spirited miles
Very impressive tyre that seems to have it all! It almost seems like the perfect tyre! Grippy (wet & dry), strong sidewalls, superb braking, very quiet(!), hydroplaning resistance high... all in one tyre. Would definitely buy again and again!

Given 91% while driving a Ford Mondeo (205/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 35,000 spirited miles
After driving many cars on many makes of tyre for the last 20 years, for the wear rate, grip, handling and value for money, I would totally recommend this tyre. I rotated the tyres and have achieved 35000 miles on a set of 4 with no incident, whilst maintaining an active driving style for commuting and general life. Have just ordered another set of 4 for the next stint and looking after 2 new family members.

Given 70% while driving a BMW E36 318CI (205/50 R17) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
When bought car for some reason there was for different budget tyres on it and it was very difficult to control on wet, car was chipped, so it was really live, so i decided to put four branded name tyres and these dunlops was good value for quality you are getting. i was very pleased with these fast response, was happy with handeling, comfort, grip, it is very good tyre who is nol looking to spend to much on tyres, cant say much about mileage, because done very small mileage and car was sold. For very hard pushing on corners it might be need a bit more performance tyre, but would buy them again probadly.

Given 87% while driving a Opel Astra G (195/60 R15 V) on mostly country roads for 30,000 average miles
Very good in dry conditions. Pretty good on wet, though not tested to the limit. Low noise, comfort ok. Much better than Dunlop SP sport 2020E the car came with.

Given 89% while driving a Volkswagen Mk4 Golf Estate TDi 130 (205/55 R16) on mostly motorways for 22 easy going miles
I had my first pair of Dunlop SP Sport Fast Response (front pair on front wheel drive) replaced after 22,000 miles, the rears are still only half worn.

Would definately buy the same again and would highly recommend to any mile munchers. Grippy, quiet and responsive, i have finally found a tyre that will stop me spending limitless hours of researching every time i need to replace them as i now wouldnt use anything else.

The only tyre that comes close is the Cooper Zeon CS6 on my Golf GTi.
