Questions and Answers for the Minerva Ice Plus S 110

2018-10-31 - I can't see the word rotation on them but the side wall has an arrow looking design. Are these tires directional?

The tread pattern looks like it should be Asymmetric, but you would need to see a better quality picture or speak to Minerva to confirm.

Given 49% while driving a Suzuki Swift 1,2 2013 (175/65 R15) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
These are 10 years old tyres which were fitted on the car as winter tyres when I bought it. I haven't had the chance to try them on snow. However, on some wet roads, even after the rain, they don't provide any traction. It's to a point where it's really dangerous. If I start uphill, the wheels will slip in both first and second gears during a mild acceleration. Braking on that kind of road with these tyres is really bad. The same thing happens when on wet grass. I've had 10 years old Dunlop winter tyres with my last car and they still were great in both conditions until I changed them because they were worn out. These Minerva still have 7-8 mm, so I'll keep them during this summer, hopefully they'll be better when it's warmer.

I was very surprised (in a bad way!) after getting these tyres fitted (even after the break-in period). With the previous Firestone tyres i had to try very hard to lock the wheels up under hard braking, with these Minerva tyres i have to try very hard NOT to lock them up on wet roads. Even when moderately braking in corners, the cars starts to skid on wet roads. Aquaplaning resistance is average, i've had Michelins that were worse, but these Minervas don't give any confidence when hitting a puddle of water. When you want to pull out on a junction in a normal manner, the wheels start to spin as they simple don't get any traction, this gets very annoying after a while.. This tyre is average on dry roads, it is stiffer than the previous Firestones so handling is ok, although this tyre lacks 'feeling' when cornering. Comfort is good and so is the wear rate and they are not super noise either, so that's not too bad. The wear is a bit difficult to measure in an honest manner as you can not drive with these tyres without spinning everywhere you go on damp/wet surfaces, so that will speed up the wear process. So to sum it up, a good tyre for people that drive like an elderly 95 year old woman that never goes above 30mph and never drives any further than the local church. NOT RECOMMENDED!
