Working as a management consultant, I rent about 50 cars a year. Recently I was given a Hyundai Sonata, a car I've had before. Not one of my favorites, but a decent mid range sedan in 2013.

Driving home from the airport in 3-5 cms of snow and wintery conditions, I was surprised, even shocked at how hard it was to keep the car tracking straight. Even the slightest acceleration sent the car sliding out of its lane. At this point I was going 50 kms an hour.

Normally I don't check the brand of my rental car tires unless the performance was exceptional in one way or another, but at my first stop, I stooped down to see what kind of tires I was using.

When I saw a the Sailun brand, all became clear. An aggressive looking winter wedge tread pattern does nothing to help these tires in snow.

Stopping distance: terrible
Control while turning, accelerating in a turn: abysmal
Starting off from a stop: not good.

I don't know what these tires, cost they must be cheap, but if you are thinking they are worth the money they are not! A decent mid level all season gives more traction and control.

My personal car has one of the best winter tires on it and to think of what I can accomplish in that car in the same conditions, makes me angry that Sailun is allowed to call these a winter tire.
