Getting my second set fitted this week, having run the last set from November '10 to March '11 and Sept '11 through to July '12. Total mileage over this period has been c.20k, and temps have ranged from -18 up to 22+ deg C.

As my daily drive is a round trip of 100 miles over the Peak District, with regular trips down to London/south Wales, I see a combination of country lanes, A-road, dual carriageway and motorway's in varying states of repair and surface conditions.

The tyres were excellent in temps below 2 deg, where there was a risk of ice. Stopping distances were dramatically reduced, general grip and cornering was superb both on the flat and on slopes. Control was still there when the ABS kicked in on icy roads. On unploughed roads, (5-6" snow covering) the grip was not in question, and the driver gave up before the car. They also had a significant impact in wet/muddy conditions, being able to get the vehicle up and out of sloped fields.

There was a noticed feel of instability when temps got over 10-15 deg C, with them feeling a little 'squirrely' at motorway speeds. There was not enough to lose confidence in the tyre, just that they were not as planted as the summer tyres, (Cooper Zeon's on larger 19" rims), although a deeper tyre wall may have contributed to this feeling.

Overall, given my inexperience with other winter tyre brands, the Vredestein is an excellent winter tyre that is more than capable for my needs. The tyre has gotten me out of a few predicaments, and the first drive back from the fitters' in the snow was like night and day.

Driving off from the fitters I almost turned straight back to get them removed. It felt as though my air suspension had collapsed, the ride was so harsh and unforgiving. Even after 200 miles the tyres were still rather stiff and uncertain. After 2000 miles they are superb, especially when it is wet and cold, with great braking and good feedback. Above about 13C they feel a bit squidgy, so I'll be swapping them in April.

Just simply a great winter tire. Great in the wet the snow I would buy them again. YES. And they wear well too.

I've had these on two different awd cars and rate them very highly at the important bits like in the wet, snow and ice where they truly excel. They are a step up from the very good Nokian WRG2s I've also run. The level of grip, traction and braking on fresh snow and compacted snow is outstanding it gives you so much safety margin much more than I ever expected when I first used them. Even on ice the tyres bite in and you're off with no drama. I find them as quiet and comfortable as my Pirelli Scorpion summer tyres. Some people claim they are good enough to use all year round, they probably are but I found in warm spring weather that they flex and squirm a little bit too much when pressing on and wear noticeably quicker so I only use them November through March/April. They're much less expensive than a lot of other premium winter tyres and just as good or better in the tests. Highly recommended

Oustanding winter performance from these tyres. I ran these on an A4 quattro then my S3 over 2 severe winters, and despite the low ground clearance of the S3 I could quite happily pull away at considerable speed through fresh snow over 1 foot deep - nice spray of snow over the bonnet! In fact I had to be flooring the accelerator to get any kind of ESP kick in. On the back of this forked out almost £300 per corner to kit out our Q7 with 20 inch versions of same and did not regret it. There was nothing that the q7 could not handle wearing these tyres. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. Will buy again.

Driving 2 times at the Alpes each year, for work many times in mud and horrible roads, never let me down till now.

On my second set now, 30,000 miles from first set run all year round. Bridgestone Duellers originally fitted to pick up were terrible, tailing out all the time. Vreds have never let go, summer or winter. Have used these towing, high speed and all weathers, never let me down! Wouldn't fit anything else!

Last winter, in a Freelander 2 with Wintracs on, I was repeatedly amazed by the grip in snow and ice. Even the most impassible, steepest north Yorks roads were handled with ease. I had snow chains and never used them. [I skidded once on 100% ice and in snow over 2ft on a one-in-five. The car did make it up the one-in-five, eventually!] Awesome rubber. I wouldn't touch another tyre in winter.

Have run these tyres all year round for two years now. Been down to the Alpes on 4 occasions and driven in 12" of snow and very steep roads without a hint of losing traction. Even driven on the French motorways in the unploughed outside lane at the speed limit (110km/h) in bad weather without any loss of traction. In extreme snow and ice these tyres are excellent. They also perform well in the wet and dry at other times of the year as well. HIghly recommended. Will definitely be buying another set when they finally wear out.

Great winter tyres, surefooted in snow and good even in cold icy conditions. have lasted me for 3 winters (over 20,000 miles). Will buy them again for winter 2011, no hesitation!

Bought 4 used Vredsteins manufactured in 4 different years with 6-7 mm left. Was really, really surprised of how smooth and confident driving could be. Everything was excellent. Except snow freezing mood and wear. Next season they won't serve me. Excellent up to +5 deg of road temp. ABS was used twice per winter. Good grip. Good acoustic comfort.

Got these fitted to my A6 Avant FWD winter 2010.

In heavy snow it turned into a snow plough!no trouble at all braking steering and at speed on icy roads not wavered !

got them on front axel of my wifes 307cc and the grip is second to none!
