Mazda 3 2020 Skyactive X Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Toyo Proxes Sport 2 given 87% (215-45-18-)

TL:DR
If you drive a Mazda 3 Sport - These tyres suit the car perfectly and much better than the OEM ones.

I was looking around for new tyres after having some awful Landsails UHPs from purchasing the car and then replacing my Toyo Proxes R51s (more comfort bias) after finding a pair.
This tyre is definitely a sports tyre compared to the R51. The handling was much responsive and precise when steering. This paired with a sports MZ3, made it a joy in corners and country roads.

The dry performance is good and predictive, which makes it enjoyable and allows you to push more.
The dry braking was good but nothing special, but much better than my previous tyres.

Now the wet performance was splendid. I had to slow down drastically on the motorway and went from 70mph to 30mph and the car reactived very well. Better than I expected. They are known for a high wet rating, but from Toyo, these made me realise this brand actually has premium level performance.
It seems to thrive in wet weather and gives you confidence to manage any challenges on the road. Definitely helpful when driving on the motorway in the wet.
Road noise is okay for a sports tyre and doesn't bother me too much.
Comfort is good and rides bumpy roads quite well. It can't do gritty and grooves in the road (yeah - the UK has them + potholes), then you feel it.
Wear is unknown as I have only used them for 5k miles since the summer. But wear reasonable at the moment.

Overall - I am enjoying these Proxes Sport 2, they definitely know how to tailor to the Mazda's! Definitely a good tyre for mainly wet climates. Good price too at £120 a tyre.

They seem to work well in all conditions I threw at them in and around Czech Republic. Perfect in snowy conditions in the mountains as well as in the wet. Road feedback and dry grip is good for a winter tyre. Wear seems to be pretty good, with 6+ and 8 mm tread depth left after 2 seasons (fronts and rears swapped every year, but one pair got worn down a bit more this year). I'd buy these again as they seem to be a perfect combination for most winter conditions around Europe.

Tyres I'm reviewing are marked as T005A, which are apparently Asian-specific model of T005 with emphasis on wet performance. They were also the factory tyre on my car. In my opinion they are pretty comfortable for such a low profile tyre, their wet performance seems pretty good (had zero issues with them). The softness goes a bit against the feedback they give from the road, so in the dry they are not the most confidence inspiring tyres. I cannot judge the rolling resistance, as these are the first summer tyres on the car. Currently at 7mm after roughly 5000 miles, but I haven't measured the original tread depth, so we'll see after another summer, how long lasting are they (which according to other reviews is their weak spot).

Writing about the Nexen WinGuard Sport 2 given 79% (215-45-18-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 spirited miles
I was sceptical of Nexen at first. But then we got set of original Winguard Sports when we purchased used car and they were good. So I decided to give Winguard Sport 2 a go. I'm so far impressed. I have them on now 2nd season. First they feel real good in wet. I feel safe. Curious how long before I notice significant worse performnce, budget tires do fall off a bit faster than premium. In dry all is good, not enough power to really push them tbh (180 HP). They do feel a bit more "rolly" in corners than summer Turanzas. Reason for that must be a bit softer sidewall. So that's why a bit lower score in Handling and Road feedback. Good for winter tire but it is no PS4, obviously. In snow it feels good, but didn't really have chance to drive it much at loads of snow. Mostly motorway and it was good. For the budget I'm really happy.
