Mitsubishi Magna VRX Tyre Review Highlights

Driving on mostly town for 19000 spirited miles
I've been driving with these tyres for near 30,000km now after being reccomend them by a rep. I was a little hesitant at first, but was glad I took their advice. I have always felt confident in wet and dry with this tyre. It grips and brakes well, with no suprises. Over the life of it so far this hasn't faded noticeably which makes them a great choice if you want consistency. I find they provide immense stopping power in the final part of braking, with them gripping up better and hauling the car up fast.

Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
Just bought a new set coming from the standard yokohamas that come new with my car. Great Tyre but the road noise is terrible for highway driving. It is like driving a plane down the runway. I have taken back to the tyre shop to have a look and they can't find a problem with tyre, but I can see after only 5000km's that the wear on these isnt very good. Not worth the money I paid for em.

Got these with a set of rims I recently purchased to replace my Kumho Ku31's. Not a terrible tyre, but I'm not overly impressed with it at all.

The treadlife of these tyres are actually quite good. I've done 15,000miles and it's still got 60% tread left which is great, considering that previous set of tyres (Kumho KU31's) only lasted for about 25,000 miles.

These tyres, under normal driving conditions perform fine in dry. I tend to always get grip unless I'm really pushing my car hard, and they have low levels of noise which does it make it quite comfortable as well. The cornering ability of these tyres are slightly better than the Ku31's due to a stiffer sidewall that bends inwards instead of outwards like the Ku31's did. This also means no protection for my wheels so I need to be very careful when parking next to the curb.

However, the lack of grip in the wet from these tyres, is borderline dangerous. I've got a fairly powerful fwd car and if I dare to put more than 50% throttle in either first or second gear then the entire front end of the car will dart off to the left or right. I can even spin these tyres when I change gears from 2nd to 3rd if I don't do a very low rpm gear change. It makes me feel quite uneasy in the wet. I don't feel confident in the rain if anything was to happen requiring me to swerve or slow down quickly. It is a concern considering the tight laws there are here in Victoria (Australia) where any wheelspin lands your car into the pound for 30 days.

I miss having grip like I have had in the past from the KU31's and Michelin XM1's and will not be buying this tyre again. If you don't push your car hard, then these can suffice, however take it very easy in the wet.

Writing about the Bridgestone Turanza GR90 given 90% (215-60-16-)
Driving on mostly motorways for 27 average miles
One of the most quiet tyres I have ever tried. I have replaced the worned ones with Michelin Primacy HP and have noticed a little noise & vibration immediately. My feedback for the wet is a little biased as I live in Oman (5 days of rain per year).

I wasn't happy with the wear as the rears of my Magna VRX became slicks after 7,000 km post X-rotation (27.000km in total. That's 20,000 km as front tyres and 7,000 km as rears). However, I am intending to buy GR-90 (or newer generations) again after the Michelins I have got.

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza RE001 given 43% (225-50-17-)
Driving on mostly town for 7000 easy going miles
An absolultely appalling tyre. Three significant draw backs: wear, comfort, and wet weather performance.

On a 1500kg, 220hp front-drive car, lasted only 12000km with an easy driving style. Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 lasted over 50000km, Bridgestone Potenza GIII lasted a similar distance.

Stiff sidewalls were ok for initial turn-in, but crueled ride terribly.

But the killer was wet weather performance - it felt as though the tyre rigidity increased about 4 fold when they hit a bump or road reflector in the wet. The one of the first significant drives I did when fitted was a highway drive in the wet, whenever the tyres hit a road reflector the car would literally jump sideways. Performance was so poor, Bridgestone Australia replaced them with ER300 Turanza without an argument.

I would not recommend these tyres, Goodyear Eagle GSD3 (though no longer sold) were a vastly superior tyre in every respect except, perhaps, willingness on initial turn-in.
