Toyota 4Runner Tyre Review Highlights

Driving on mostly town for 0 easy going miles
Assumed tires were fine as there was no issues in summer. Seem to be okay on snow but deadly on ice. Don't trust these are all season tires and don't buy them for winter. Unsafe for the road. I spun out 3x on small patches. Had to buy new tires.

Driving on a combination of roads for 50000 average miles
I had these on my 4Runner for years. Used in all kinds of weather and terrain. Always gave me complete confidence no matter what : snow, wet, dry, pot holes, dirt.... you name it I was confident these tires could handle it. I would buy again. Also, for a snow/all terrain they were reasonably quiet and comfortable and gave good wear. Keep em aired up and rotate and you will get the warranty wear out of them.

Extremely Disappointed with Yokohama Geolandar AT Tyres
I purchased Yokohama Geolandar AT off-road tyres in March, expecting high quality from a reputed brand. However, one month ago, one of the tyres developed large balloons and eventually burst. Despite this clear manufacturing defect, Yokohama refused to honor the warranty, stating that since the tyre had already burst, it wasn't covered.
To make matters worse, another tyre has now developed two balloons, again a clear sign of a defect, yet Yokohama continues to deny responsibility, claiming it’s not a manufacturing issue, even though the tyre is still under warranty.

This experience has been extremely disappointing. It’s not just about poor product quality but also a serious safety concern. Defective tyres like these are a major risk to life, and Yokohama’s refusal to address the issue under warranty is unacceptable. I strongly advise others to think twice before purchasing Yokohama tyres, as the company does not seem to stand behind their product or their warranty

Writing about the Kumho Crugen HT51 given 73% (265-65-17-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 30000 spirited miles
I've had the Kumho Crugen HT51 for about 30,000 miles on a 4x4 4Runner. I purchased these because in some other tire tests, they were rated close behind one of the top-scoring Michelin Defender LTX/MS, at a much lower price. They seem to be a clone of that tire.

Overall, these tires have provided good dry, wet, snow, and ice traction, and excellent fuel mileage. My 4x4 4Runner with a lift averages over 20mpg. My one complaint would be that the shoulders seem to wear a faster than the center, and they don't have full-depth cipes. Despite having a 60k mile rating, after 25-30k miles, they're already mostly bald on the shoulders and the tires are already losing some snow and ice traction.

One amazingly shocking and unexpected "pro" has been offroad performance and durability. I haven't had a true off-road or all terrain tire, but I've done some moderately intense offroading in these, which they definitely weren't made for. I was terrified, and really just crossing my fingers I didn't get a blow out on some rough high-clearance, 4WD-required jeep roads, like the Lead King Basin and the American Basin. But these tires somehow just kept trucking. I probably just got lucky, but I'm still impressed.

Would I buy these as an offroad tire? No. But if you're planning on doing 95% on-road highway and forest service road driving, and are looking for great dry, wet, snow, and ice traction, and good efficiency, from a budget tire, I would put these near the top of your list.

Writing about the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 given 0% (265-70-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 7000 easy going miles
R3 SUV purchased Oct/21. We are mandated winter tires October 1 to April 30. I don’t care how they drive in rain, what they look like or how noisy they are all I care about is severe winter performance. These tires have poor lateral grip and braking and acceleration on hard compact snow is terrible. I don’t know if these tires were not cured properly or just a poor compound. They remind me of bias belt tires from the sixties. I cannot recommend these tires. I have been licensed for 60 years and have driven public transportation and motor coaches for 30 years, several smaller vehicles and motor cycles.
