Vauxhall Astra SRi CDTi 1.9 150 Tyre Review Highlights

Exactly the same problem as the previous review on the Audi. Purchased the car a year ago and had new landsails on the rear wheels, allright in the dry but in the wet they easily lose grip when cornering even going round a roundabout at a low speed. Ive had a few occasions where I have actually been saved by the auto correction breaking to prevent skidding, if I didn’t have that im certain I would have spun the car by now. Im happy to use the remaining lifetime up as I now know the limits well (they do wear well) but I certainly won't be going for these again.

Verdict = "Landslide"

These are great tyres. They've really come into their own over the past couple of weeks due to the bad weather and like other reviewers I've been purposely seeking out the snowy back roads in an attempt to find conditions that will cause the them trouble. I've been unable to find any.

The difference between my Summer tyres and the UltraGrip 8s is night and day. They give amazing grip on cold snowy/slushy/wet roads and the extra comfort compared to my Summers is refreshing. I haven't noticed any increase in road noise.

I've never experienced such a level of confidence and grip while driving in Winter and it worries me now more than ever that most people still attempt to get about safely in the snow and ice with modern sporty Summer tyres, relying on nothing more than luck and hoping to 'drive to the conditions'. I'd buy these again in an instant.

I had a pair of these fitted to the front of my Astra (150bhp) and I must say I am most impressed. They grip very well in the wet and give confident feedback from the road. Road noise is of a minimum and the ride is just as good as a top end tyre. I now am a convert, will buy these again.
I cant really comment on how quickly they will wear as I have only had them on the car for a week or so.
I did a little research and found this.

They are made by BRISA which is a joint venture between the Bridgestone Corporation of Japan and The Sabanci Group of Turkey. They have been in production since 1988 with Bridgestone technology and are produced alongside Bridgestone in the manufacturing plant based in Izmit in Turkey. The factory is one of the largest in Europe.

The quality of the product is outstanding and what you actually get is a premium tyre at a mid range price.

Driving on mostly country roads for 15 spirited miles
I couldn't afford premium or mid range tyres so had to get something legal, and fast. I had heard mixed reviews about Accelera in the past, but didnt stop to ask the garage what budget tyres they would be.

Drove 30 miles home, didn't notice anything untoward.

Got home and read scathing reviews on this forum, many saying these tyres should be illegal. This was very worrying, so, as it was raining outside and had been for some time, I took the car for a spin on a bendy road.

I started cautiously but got confident quite quickly. I would say my manner of driving was "aggressive" and I deliberately carried more speed into bends and braked later than I had been before the Acceleras were fitted. I was not driving in an illegal or dangerous way, so I was sure that the tyres would cope with my normal mild-mannered driving, wet or dry.

I had also carried out an emergency stop test at 30 mph and 40 mph. I did not skid and could feel the ABS controlling the stop. Again I was confident that I would stop in town. I was quite surprised by this as the reviews implied that I would be in for a scare.

I also did a controlled stop from 50mph and the result was positive.

Needless to say I drove with traction control enabled. The car is a 2007 3-door Astra SRI, tyre is a 225/40 18Y.

These are by far the worst tyres I have ever owned. They were on the car when I bought it (all 4 corners), and for the first time I've been waiting - in fact deliberately trying to wear them out so I can warrant buying something better.

They have reasonable grip in the dry, but it the wet it is a joke - past the point of being dangerous. Road noise is the worst I've heard, and the car just feels detached and numb to drive. The bad thing (in this case) is that they last quite well!!!!

This could be the first tyres I replace before they have actually worn out!! Stay well away from these tyres.

Like this tyre, but my only concern is the wear factor, only got
about 12,000 out of front tyres from new. As said in prev posts the
inside edge wears out quick. But on the other hand the tyre is down
to the wear bar ! I do not drive the car like i stole it, but dont
drive it like a granny. I have just put another set on so will wait and

Got these from Reifen in GmbH delivered for around £100 a tyre. got 4 and put them on the 17 inch 5 spoke std Vaux wheels on a 3 door 1.9cdti 150 ps. took a trip out in the one day of snow this year 2012 !
the tyres are so amazing, have used 1 mm off the front in 5 months on car at 500 miles a month, and none of the back, so I guess they will last around 20'000 miles if I put the fronts on the back visa versa, year after year. they will fit a multitude of cars so will be keeping and using from Oct to march every year. cheap and saves me buying another £300 of contact sports when the wife tries to burn a set out in the bad snow in Dec 2010 ! :(
Buy them, put them on, and forget about worrying driving in the snow. people look at you like an idiot why is he driving at 30mph in the snow? its because the snow tyres drive like normal, stop, steer and accelerate as if you are on a normal tarmac road, it really is jaw dropping the performance of these tyres. get them, I seriously promise you wont be disappointed. :)

Writing about the Nokian WRG2 given 79% (225-45-17-V)
Driving on mostly country roads for 4000 spirited miles
I've just changed back to my Winter Nokian WR G2 tyres ready for the colder spell. I was reminded when I got them out, that they had barely worn on the rears, but the fronts had about 5.5mm left. Baring in mind that they start off with 10mm, and I've only had them a year, I think that they wear a little fast. I do accelerate and brake quite a bit for roundabouts, have a windy, hilly route and I suppose driving faster than most doesn't help, but I'm less than impressed with only getting 2 winters out if them, especially when most people say that they get 4 winters, or 20,000 miles. So I made sure that they were swapped over, so that I can replace all 4 at once, after getting the most out of them. Saying that, my summer tyres (F1 Assymetrical 2's) are similar, but wear at a slightly better and closer rate. Plus in the summer I tend to drive faster and have more fun.

I agree with an earlier comment, they do have great grip on snow, good in the dry and ok in the wet. I live on an incline (probably about 5%), and there were taxis and other cars struggling to get up, me too a couple of years ago. But since I've had my Nokians I've never had any problems climbing hills, let alone my road. My only only real issue with them is the tendency to loose grip when cornering on snow or slush, or sometimes when its raining. Saying that, sweeping bends etc are ok, its roundabouts where you turn tighter that are the main problem, and it's not like I'm taking the roundabout too fast either.

I have noticed that Nokian have released some improved models, namely the WR A3 & WR D3, I'll read the reviews on here next summer and if they have better turning ability I'll try to find another brand that do. Afterall, its great getting up hills but whats the point if you struggle to turn, you'll just get stuck somewhere else. That defeats the point of winter tyres. Afterall, I don't want to get stuck, thats why I bought winter tyres in the first place.

Writing about the Primewell PZ900 given 87% (235-35-19-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 100000 spirited miles
I have driven many vehicles on budget brands, and these out perform all of them. I have driven on them now for around 10000 miles and must say they perform really well on all surfaces and I have not noticed any annoying tire noise. I drive 'very' spirited but I rely more on experience and intelligence rather than pushing my tires to the limit. In fact these tires perform so well that I have fitted them to my girlfriends car.

Lastly:
Apparently the 'Primewell' name is owned by Pirelli (and the Pz is a Pirelli design tread pattern)
