Volkswagen Golf GT TDI 140 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Hifly HF805 given 90% (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 average miles
bought my golf and it had Hifly 805 on the back with continentals on the front, the fronts quickly wore out so decided to fit same as on the back Hifly 805 and was delighted with the tyres.... good grip in dry ...good in the wet and lasted easily 20k... liked them so much that when tyres needed replacing got full set fitted for just short of £200... no issue in recommending

Writing about the Linglong Green Max given 81% (225-45-18-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 average miles
Firstly I bought my VW golf with the Linglong GreenMax fitted to the rear, these had done atleast 25,000 miles last year and I was impressed with the overall performance. When I come to renew the tyres I thought I would once again buy a full new set of Linglong greenmax. 18" 225 45 Honestly these tyres are great, stick to the road well in the dry and a grade B performance rating in the wet and are an amazing price for 18" low profile at £170 online! Why not buy 4new tyres everytime! I can't stand cars with multiple tyre brands and wouldn't even consider a part worn replacement ever, whatever the brand was! If your not a brand snob (I work in branding and packaging and I understand you can buy quality without having to pay over the odds) Ling Long may not be the most well know brand but the GreenMax tyre is there best tyre made and performs well if not better than some of the the more expensive mid range tyres in the class. I also have another VW project car which I have bought another set of Linglong Greenmax for these are 16" 215 40 and I'm looking forward to seeing how these perform! Overall my experience with the Greemax tyres is great and I would recommend them to anyone if they are looking at replacing a ful set of tyres! Price paid £170 for 4thres from tyre leader, fitting at my local garage £60.

Driving on mostly town for 15000 average miles
Golf MK6 2.0 GT TDI - Not a tyre I would usually buy, but I bought all 4 new and were assured they were a submake of a premium brand. Overall, not happy. The noise the tyres make at motorway speeds is AWFUL (like something is wrong with the wheels or bearings). So much so, that I had to get the garage to check that there was nothing wrong with any wheels (there wasn't). Definitely going back to the Pirelli's I had before.

Got 4 of these to replace the cheap budgets that were on my new (to me anyway) car when I bought it. Doing a mix of motorway & city driving & I can't praise these enough.

Dry grip is good, like others have said wet isn't as good but 100% better than the tyres that were on before!! I don't understand people complaining about wear, I've just done 10k with mine on & they've hardly moved, still plenty of life in them (6mm)

These have lasted 23k mainly town driving and have been excellent, very comfortable, smooth, quiet tyres. Dry and wet grip excellent and they were fitted for £55 each 2 years ago.

Writing about the Matador MP 46 Hectorra 2 given 89% (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
Superb tires at cut price compared to most big brand names. Apparently Matador are a unbranded Continental(i think), made in the same factory but branded Matador to represent the budget line of tires made by the big named company, but in fact these are easilt as good performance wise as my Michelin Pilot 2's i had on my Mk5 Golf Gt Tdi 2.0. 140bhp and 236lbft torque gives tires a very hard time and these lasted way longer than Michelins but delivered superb grip in the dry and wet. At almost half the price of Michelins but with better longevity/lower wear rate its a no brainer. Make sure its the MP46 ones you buy as there are one or two different variances of Matadors.
Profile was 225/45 so quite wide and low profile which did transmit alot of road noise but none more than Michelins.
I think before i sold the car they'd worn from 8mm down to 5.5mm in approx 10k, so looking at maybe 20k from them, and at £57 from camskill.co.uk for 225/45/17 4th Dec 2013 and £5 delivery you'd be mad not to try them.
Highly recommended!

Will never buy these again. Cracks appeared between the tread
on all 4 tyres. Was advised to change them after 18 months and I have.

Writing about the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3 given 99% (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 17000 spirited miles
I always put good tyres on my car. I had continentals before, they were good but these ps3 are in a different league. Truly amazing in the wet and dry, golfs always suffer with feathering the back tyres, this is limited with the ps3 . I got 17,000 out of a front pair of tyres and I drive hard.
If you want the best then goes for the Michelin pilot sport 3.

Driving on a combination of roads for 18000 easy going miles
Bought these (expensive) tyres because they were claimed (in early 2012) to be fuel efficient, with very good wear resistance.
Performance of tyre was ok, but they are noisy, and the wear rate is VERY high; despite having a wear index of 320, a pair wore out in circa 18,000 miles, with very careful driving style.
NOT RECOMMENDED.

I have one of these tyres on my rear offside. It was a quick fix after being met by a burst tyre one morning. .....three and a half years ago! Maybe its because I only have the one Event tyre but I really have nothing negative to say. I do about 10,000 miles per year. My car has GTI brakes and suspension along with ESP and ABS....don't know if these features assist but grip has never felt compromised in dry or wet conditions. My driving style is spirited and progressive. I'd maybe not buy these tyres again due to the really bad reviews, but at the end of the day a tyre is made of rubber, if its wet it'll slip, if dry it'll slip.
