Renault Megane RS265 Tyre Review Highlights

Driving on a combination of roads for 2500 spirited miles
Great tire in the dry, but not that good in the wet. After about 15 minutes or so of "spirited" driving on the dry B roads, the tires drastically lose their grip. They start squealing in the sharp corners when they previously didn't. I bought them because I wanted a "price-performance" tire and they do the job okay. If you're serious about driving I would choose Michelin Sport 4s or Continental SportContact 7. If I would be buying again, I wouldn't buy these tires and would just go for the more expensive tires. But if you are a casual driver I would totally recommend these tires.

100% give these a chance, I've had all of the top brands on several performance cars from 200-400bhp. These are easily on par with the best of them for dry grip. Wet grip they fall a bit behind the likes of Michelin, this doesn't effect me as this car isn't my daily and only used for fun on the weekends along some B roads from the Brecon Beacons to the Mendips of Somerset, but for the price you can't go wrong. I'll 100% be sticking to these tyres if they stay reasonably priced.

I've made around 25000 kms with a set of 4. The grip in the dry and in the wet were acceptable but in comparison with the price I've paid for them (around 200€/tyre) they don't worth it. Comfort in the beginning was relatively good, but it clearly became worse and worse with the use of tyres. The wear is too soft, so it clearly disappears in no time. The worse part... I was entering on an highway when I felt what I thought was like a metallic sound cracking coming from a rear tyre and, after that, the car started shaking all over above 90km/h. I stopped, I didn't saw any anomaly. Went to my local tyre dealer (where I bought the tyres) and they took off the tyre... and guess what... The tyre was all cracked on the inside and pressure went below 1BAR. In short, it was a matter of luck to not have a blown up tyre and a possible accident because of this tyre. It clearly was a faulty tyre because everything was ok (I check the pressure very often). I know there are new models, but avoid this at all cost. I know that Goodyear still have some stock of this model, so avoid it because it clearly has a problem!

DUNLOP DIREZZA Z3 or ZIII whichever you prefer.. I use this for Track Days and spirited B-Road Driving. Had/experienced them on two different cars My Daily tyre is a Michellin Pilot Sport 4. So my rating of the ZIII would be in comparison to that. I only want to share that the ZIII is VERY possible as a daily usage tyre. You just have to drive more cautiously in the wet, but they are still decent. I rate it a 7/10. And that if you daily these, expect high wear, but not as bad as Bridgestone's AD08R. These are VERY good tyres. And they easily rank one of my favourites. I am certain you wouldn't regret getting them! The Dry grip, drive and noise is also better than the AD08R, completely no reason to go for the latter, unless you are talking about the latest AD08RS from Bridgestone, which would set you back more. So just go for the ZIII.

Best all-rounder (at its price point), or especially if you can get a good deal on them, wherever you may reside. 100% no regrets. Could use a stiffer side wall, then it will be absolutely perfect. but the PS4S exists for that, but it cost quite abit more, perhaps, too much for the slight gain, so we are back to: PS4 as the best all-rounder, by-default tyre to go for. There are quieter tyres out there but it probably would not provide as good a combination of both Wet and Dry grip. Have also tried made in Europe and Asia version of this Tyre. The Asian (Thailand for my case) one gets heated/soften more easily. other than that not much difference. I thought it might wear faster as a result, but it lasted just as long as the last Eastern Europe PS4 I had too.

Driving on a combination of roads for 13000 spirited miles
The tyre comfortable and has an OK level of dry grip. It's is a perfect fit for a fast tourer or a car that mostly drives the highways. However when i took my Megane RS out of the city for a ride i found the tyres very limiting as the temperature was getting higher. I put them on in July and when I was swapping them for winters in November the fronts were already nearly dead. I swapped them with the rear set for the next season, but after a month i my rear axle started drifting badly. So after 10 months I'm buying a new set. Note: The retailer i bought the PS4 from made a mistake as I ordered the PS4S originally, but as tyres were already on the car when I found out i decided to give them a shot. And they proved not to be a good fit for an aggressive driving style.

Tyre is really good when pushing the car hard on the corners. It loads up very nice and you can feel what is going on with the car. They do require some heat to be at their best.

A sure footed confident tyre with the very best value for money ratio that i have ever found or used!!
Whatever the size of tyre you need, you only need this brand.

Driving on mostly motorways for 14000 average miles
My RS 265 (with Cup pack) came with Michelin PS2 tyres fitted. these managed to last a respectable 21k miles (including some rotating) before they really dropped off a cliff, and with around 3mm tread depth left I opted to change them out.

having previoulsy sworn by Kumho KU31 tyres, and struggled to get these, I opted for a set of Michelin PS4 instead, thinking it would retian the same road holding and feel of the car. To a point the tyres do, but athey really arent brilliant in the wet and are a great drop down from the PS2's taht came with the car originally.

at the cost I paid, and only having had 14k miles out a set, they are now at 3mm and have experienced the same dramatic fall off in grip as the PS2 had - which suggests that I really need to change them now, lots of tramlining especially in the wet, and as I live in Scotland, thats pretty much all year round.

these tyres havent been pushed too hard, most driving is on a motorway - which is generally in traffic at 30mph!!! :), with maybe 2-3k miles on country roads.

overall I am very disappointed, had they lasted another 6k miles, I probably would replace with a newer set - but I wont buy these again. wear too fast, grip drops dramatically when at around 50% tread depth left - I am off to find an alternative.

Driving on track for 3000 average miles
Fitted these after 3 sets of R888R.
Daily wise - massive improvement. No noise, definitely not as near as the Toyo's made, comfort pretty much the same but perhaps a bit harsher than the R888R, not something i'll put my mind on.
On Track just outstanding performance. Beats the Toyo's (not in much though) in almost every aspect from dry grip, feedback (almost identical), handling and most important - durability. These refused to fail after an intense day on a very warm tarmac. My RBF600 failed before the tyres lost their grip. After 2 hours of on and off tracking the front tyres have lost nearly 60% of their lives which was a bit disappointing, but due to the hot weather (35c), long straights with hard braking was understandable.

Would buy these again? Well, I've already ordered 2 sets :)

Writing about the Uniroyal RainSport 3 given 89% (235-40-18-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 7000 spirited miles
I bought my Renault sport Megane 265 cup with Uniroyal rainsport 3 already fitted. Now I've never used this tyre before and had seen mixed reviews so I wasn't very optimistic and was going to change them. The day I bought the car was overcast and very damp. i went for a drive on some well known driving roads and spent the day out driving "enthusiastically" and I completely changed my view on the tyres, I was shocked at how well they cope. Wet grip is one of the best of any performance tyre and even in the dry they don't struggle. I can't believe the performance you get for the small price. Ok if you really push them they can overheat and go a bit spongy, but on a road you are never going to notice this. Only downside I have is wear. Now the rears are still around 5.5mm of tread but the fronts arent far off the markers now so they've lasted around 6k on the front. I could probably get another 1-2k out of them but they will be getting changed soon and I'll be sticking with the rainsports. Highly recommended even for spirited drivers
