225/40 17 Tyre Review Highlights

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 rated 83% while driving a BMW 325i
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 spirited miles
When I fitted them for the first time, on one of my cars it felt like it's reborn. Amazing handling, grip and feedback. I was astonished. The only bad thing is that only after a year and a half and about 20k kms, I have torn the internal structure and they have become impossible to balance, started to give vibrations at random speeds and had to replace them. Surprise surprise. I have replaced them with exactly the same ones. It's only because I admit that my driving didn't help. I always attack the corners with the maximum possible speed. And don't have much regard for speedbumps. I could see that only the edges of the tires was looking worn and the rest looked still great. They looked like they were driven hard on a racetrack. So I'm sure it's my fault that they have disintegrated inside so quickly. Probably the hot weather here (Dubai) didn't help much too. I am not sure how they handle in the wet, but I don't really care, haha.
Overall astonishing tyre. Will recommend 10/10.

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 rated 81% while driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Mk. 7.5
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
I run my car in Vancouver, BC, CA. Typically winter involves a lot of rain, but snow will be a thing to deal with at least a few times a year. It is hilly (very much mountain adjacent), and when snow comes it tends to be very "greasy", and will not be cleared by the city. These tires are enough (when combined with a soft touch on the gas) to negotiate the snow we get here. They are even enough to give a strong sense of superiority to all the boobs who try to use summer tires, and lesser all seasons. They are EXCELLENT in the wet, which we really get much more of. Intellectually, I know I can get more in the summer out of a dedicated UHP, but in normal driving that is a point you won't likely reach on any regular basis.

Matador MP 47 Hectorra 3 rated 50% while driving a Volkswagen Golf Mk7 1.6 TDI Bluemotion
Driving on mostly motorways for 18000 easy going miles
Its an average budget tyre. It has an expected and slightly below average level of wet grip and dry grip. It wears as expected for a budge tyre too. I will go back to a hankook ventus s3 after this cost cutting and mildly disappointing experience.

Bridgestone Turanza T005 rated 37% while driving a BMW 1 series M pack
Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 average miles
Got those as stock on BMW 1 series. Summer tire performs worse than all season I have. Spinning on wet, dry. Handling - none, stopping - weak. Car is unstable even on reasonable acceleration on wet surface. Just some dust on a turn, and go sideways. On speed over 120 - car goes sideways. On turns on a highway car slips from trajectory. Catch some dust in a turn, even reasonable low speed, you lose control of the car as grip is gone. List goes on and on. Worst tire you can imagine. Even low fuel consumption doesn’t worth all the negative points. Plastic tires, no grip and as a result low fuel, but really doesn’t worth it whatsoever. Never ever buy it. I drove 6k kilometres on those, want to get rid of it. Don’t want even to resell it, because those tires are unsafe.

Roadstone Eurovis Sport 04 rated 75% while driving a BMW 130i M
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
Went from Bridgestones to these, was literally day and night. Dry grip far superior, wet grip definitely noticeably better. Handling amazing and significantly less road noise. I decided on these based on the reviews and the fact that nexen are involved with the production of this brand. Have around 10,000kms on them so far and not half worn om the front, about half worn on the back (only the inside edge due to camber mostly). so wear seems good

General Altimax One S rated 89% while driving a Audi A1
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
I put a pair of these on the front of my wife's 2018 Audi A1 TDI after the Bridgestones were looking tired @17k miles. I was dubious about using mid range tyres for the first time ever but the Continental ownership of General reassured me. The tyres are rated B/C in respect of wet weather and rolling resistance.
Having now scrubbed in for a thousand miles the tyres are very impressive, it's a nippy little car with bags of torque for such a low kerb weight but the front grips well in the wet and seems to pull up well under moderate braking. So far, so good, it's difficult to comment on the wear rate but @ £75 per they're looking good.

Ovation W 582 rated 30% while driving a BMW M135i
Driving on mostly country roads for 3000 spirited miles
I ran these tyres for one winter on a RWD 320bhp car.
They were a very bad choice for the car. Traction in both wet and dry needed feather light throttle inputs and I found the car unstable through corners.
I wouldn't recommend these tyres.
That said, I previously used Ovation winter tyres on a small van (with >90bhp) and they worked well in snowy conditions.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 rated 47% while driving a Toyota 86 GT
Driving on mostly country roads for 3000 spirited miles
Had them on the rear of my GT86 and they were useless compared the Yokohamas that were on there. Yes they were slightly quieter but the grip was a lot less. I moved them straight to the front of the car. Now there is not as much grip up front but thats better than death trap at the back. Now I can just feel them understeering in the fast bends where the yokohamas just gripped. Will go back to the yokohamas next set and hope these wear out soon.... The shoulder of the tyre is starting to show premature wear as i drive them hard. This did not happen on the previous Yoko's and these f1's were £15 more each!! I would not buy them again due to the reduced grip they give me.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 rated 99% while driving a Mazda RX8
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
Driving a mazda rx-8 from 2008. Previously I had the Falken fk452's (fitted on 2010) which at the time were the best of the best (value for money) there was. These tires so far are outperforming the falkens for quite a bit! As compared with Potenza's and Supersport's they are BETTER hands down. I drive both aggressively and regularly both on highways and urban environments and the road feel you get from these tires are excellent! Even when using a lower profile (40's from 45's) the feedback is excellent and the noise is very minimal. For tear I cant say much yet, but they are doing pretty good so far! And I saved the best for last. The grip level of those tires are seriously the best you can get for this category hands down! Unless you are going semi or full slick, then this is what you should get. Having driven many friends's cars (all the same car as mine) with the other top 10 tires fitted, I can honestly say this your choice. On track days those tires posted on average, -4s / -5s of a normal lap, which is almost unbelievable! The price on those premium tires was almost the lowest on all the top10 in the list, which was a huge surprise to me as I would have expected to pay up to 1k euros for 4 new tires of this performance, yet I paid only half that!!!! I would definitely buy again in the future, and would write a review again when I reach 10k miles! All in all seriously go for it! -Lefsef

BCT S800 rated 21% while driving a Mitsubishi Colt version R
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
Bought a set of alloys with these on brand new. Coming off and being replaced with decent tyres. Road noise terrible, can't hold a conversation properly and sounds like a bearing gone. Massive under steer in wet conditions just goes in a straight line. Seriously don't bother with these tyres. Are ok in normal straight line driving conditions! Not been on long enough to see what the wear is like. Definitely wouldn't have them again. Had michelins on before and the car drove beautifully, these affect the handling and its like driving a different car. Roll on payday!!

BCT S800 rated 0% while driving a Ford Unknown
Driving on for 500 average miles
Utter utter garbage... if there was a minus rating for Noise these excuses for tyres would be off the scale. Zero confidence in damp or wet, the road noise is apalling. Who sanctions these tyres as fit for use?? They were on when I got the car, lasted two weeks, they can now be used for kids adventure park swings...
