245/35 18 Tyre Review Highlights

Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus rated 94% while driving a BMW M240i
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
I bought these based on the review from tyrereviews.com on youtube where they did a comparison with about 8 different all season options and a summer and winter dedicated tyre thrown in to show the difference in performance. Have had dedicated winter tyres before, Yokohamas, Conti Winter Contact, and Vredestein all of which are really solid on snowy roads. I am very happy with the all round performance of the Quatrac Pro Plus All Seasons. They have been great in normal UK driving conditions during winter and now some warmer days. When using the dedicated winter tyres you can feel them sliding a little on warm dry days at the limit as the compound is softer and less suited to those conditions. However i have to say i've not felt that with the Quatracs, they remain grippy for as far as i've wanted to push them on warm dry, cold wet etc conditions in the UK. I have also had them out in the Alps for several weeks over winter, and they didn't let me down there either, some snowy roads and with appropriate driving they are solid in that environment as well. The tyre i had before on this car when i bought it last year did offer more assured dry grip was summer Pirelli Powergy, but i will keep with the Quatracs now, they are a really excellent tyre and when i'm out in the Alps i know they'll keep me right.

Radar Dimax R8 plus rated 35% while driving a BMW 125i M Sport
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
These tyres fit performance cars but they are definitely NOT performance tyres. They may be ok for driving around town at 50kph but feel very unstable on a motorway, even in a straight line (feels more like driving a boat). Since fitting them the Dynamic Stability Control activates regularly (never did that with the Bridgestones) and the car feels very ‘floaty’ in corners - even at average speeds. Will be cutting my losses and going back to the Bridgestones sooner rather than later.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 91% while driving a BMW M135i
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
These replaced some Michelin Pilot Sport 4's on the rear of my car and these have been a revelation. Lots of grip in both wet and drive, comfortable and more progressive when putting the power down. I'm very impressed.

Bridgestone Potenza Sport rated 83% while driving a BMW M240i
Driving on mostly country roads for 0 spirited miles
Well, only 60km on these tires but I know my tires and drive (test drive) about 100 cars per year so I know what to look for. Every thing Jonathan said about them (for road use) is true. Direct steering, great braking performance and probably the less comfortable option between PS4S, GY SS.... I still need to test it more but from the little I did, it's a great tire (replaced GoodYear SS)

Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport rated 91% while driving a BMW M140i F20
Driving on mostly country roads for 10000 spirited miles
This is the best road tyre I have ever used on my car. I used this tyre for every day driving, road trips and trackdays and it is absolutely amazing.
On daily driving the tyre is working absolutely fine and does have always grip. Except the temperature is below 10 degrees and it's wet. Than the tyre struggles with grip. The michelin pilot sport 4s is here better.
But on the another hand, the tyre is working also on a trackday very good. It doesn't have the ultimate grip like a cup2, but it is consistent, and it doesn't overhead. The grip is high, and the tyre does not fall apart when driven hard. Also, the tyre wear on a track or on a windy road is simply amazing! Even when if you drift, the tyre wear is really good. I mean, when you drift, the wear is always high, but this tyre was able to take some hard beating!

I would definitely buy it again, but goodyear stopped to produce this tyre in my size.
But the feedback, the durability and the grip was absolutely amazing for a road tyre!

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 97% while driving a BMW 118d M Sport
Driving on mostly country roads for 30000 spirited miles
Having had tyres last as little as 3hours or as long as 5years I have had these on the car for 18months with at least another 6months left on them I expect. If the car didn’t chime and warn me of tyre deflation I would never have guessed that a screw had given me a puncture and even then confidently drove home at 50mph. They do get sticky in hot weather but even Welsh winters don’t phase them. Rain, ice, snow and surprise floods on dark motorways are handled with ease.

Dangerous in wet I honestly don’t know how they are allowed to be sold, doesn’t matter low or high speed they just don’t grip

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 64% while driving a BMW M140i F20
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 easy going miles
Very good all round performance. They are better in terms of performance than my previous Michelin PS5. However wear rate is poor. They are worn out after only 8000 miles of steady driving on the rear. The fronts are about half worn, so it seems that to make them perform Goodyear have used a very soft compound. I would be happy to sacrifice some ultimate grip for longer life on my next tyres.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 70% while driving a BMW M135i
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
I've been running these for some time now and the rear tyres have finally worn out. For a performance car tyre on a rear wheel drive car, I've been really impressed with the wear rate of these tyres.

Grip in the summer was overall pretty good, my only complaint is that I haven't found them particularly progressive, the transition from grip to slide really quite quickly.

Compared to other tyres I've used, I found these to be quite disappointing in the wet in certain situations. Wet braking and resisting aquaplaning was good, but cornering grip in wet weather was extremely snappy, even at low speed and low revs, just pulling out of a greasy junction.

If you mainly drive in the the summer this is a good tyre but I wouldn't recommend for all weather use.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 76% while driving a BMW M140i F20
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 easy going miles
The way this tyre performs is exceptional. The limits of grip and adhesion are very high in all conditions. The tyre is also quiet ands comfortable. However all of this seem to have come because they are made from a soft compound and they wear pretty fast. I don't drive particularly hard but at 8000 miles on the rear they are nearly on the wear bars. I will be looking to replace with something with more longevity, even if that means sacrificing some ultimate grip. The previous generation Assymetric 5 would fit the bill if I am able to source some.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 65% while driving a BMW M240i
Driving on a combination of roads for 18000 spirited miles
Bought the Pilot Sport 5 to replace half-worn Pilot Super Sports which, despite being awesome in the dry, were downright lethal in the cold and damp! These came off after about 25000 miles and still had around 5mm tread left!
PS5 First impressions were positive but I came to quickly realise that was down to the old-for-new tyre swap! While I've found the PS5 to be good in the cold and wet, it understeers way too much for my liking. The rears in 245/35/18 are now approaching 2mm (after 14 months/less than 20000miles) so any day now I'll be replacing them.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 49% while driving a BMW 1 series
Driving on mostly country roads for 6000 spirited miles
These tyre perform very well when they are new and when the weather is above around 10ºC. However on a cold day or when they are worn below around 4mm performance drops off a cliff. If they are worn and it is a cold damp day the car has next to no grip and is a real handful. I have rated the wear as poor as there is only around 3mm of useable tread if you value performance. Noise and comfort are good.
