255/55 19 Tyre Review Highlights

Pirelli Scorpion ATR rated 0% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 4
Driving on mostly town for 70333 easy going miles
Lasted pretty long: 5 years and 70000 km. Now the tread is between 3-5mm. Good tire. No problems with it apart, that some tire-shops don't get the balancing right at first try.
However it does not matter, because the tire is discontinued AFAIK.

Michelin CrossClimate 2 rated 97% while driving a Volkswagen Amarok permanent 4x4
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 spirited miles
Second time of purchasing these tyres and they are perfect all rounder for my Amarok V6
Can’t praise them enough both for performance & longevity.
Really quiet & sure footed in all conditions.

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus rated 100% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 4
Driving on a combination of roads for 62500 average miles
Pirelli scorpion AT plus on 2015 Land Rover discovery. Wow what a tyre, grip wet or dry is second to NONE. Handling, comfort, real lack of road noise is better than ANY other tyre. Seriously. I’m a retired truck driver so l have done some miles. Just put another set on my car, 62500 klm on last set and still had maybe 10000 to go. Most of those klms towing a 2 and a half tonne caravan. Can not fault this tyre, we did a load of outback dirt corrugated roads without a problem. Shop around as price can vary, but just get these tyres on you car, promise you will not be disappointed.

BFGoodrich Trail Terrain TA rated 62% while driving a Volkswagen TOUAREG V6 TDI
Driving on mostly country roads for 20000 average miles
Had these for just over 2 years and 20,000 miles and they are just on the verge of needing replacing.
I waited this long before doing a review so i'd have lots of genuine information.

Good points:
Snow/Ice = Excellent. I have run them on 3 trips to the Alps with up to a foot of snow and they have been predicable, lots of traction and very sure footed.
Tough = sidewalls have had a fair number of scrapes with granite rocks and they are still perfect.
Mud= surprisingly capable, self clear quite well considering. For instance just spent an afternoon pulling horse boxes out of a show in horrible claggy mud and slippery wet grass. Not as controllable as a KO2 but they kept going....but you could tell they were at their limit.

Bad points:
Noise = started off well, but after about 5K miles, they started to have a solid persistent hum. This is in a premium 4x4 with really good sound insulation, imagine in a pickup etc it would be really bad. They have got steadily worse with age.
Wet grip = terrible, cornering at normal road speeds I have had the traction control coming on way too frequently. I do not have confidence driving these in the rain anymore on the motorway.
Fuel = terrible also, they are noticeably worse than the grabber AT3's I had before.

Summary. They seem to excel in the tougher conditions. Sadly that makes them sort of pointless for me as with their poor road manners and high fuel consumption you might as well just go for a more aggressive AT where i'd be sure they'd work when the going gets really tough. Conversely, If I needed ice and snow and road manners I'd go for a good all season SUV tyre and save a load on fuel and be nice and quiet.

Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 rated 66% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 4
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Good AT/Mud tyres. Even with 3 mountain pikes with snowflake symbol on them, no good on snow due lack of lamells on blocks, no grip on ice becose no lamells and spikes.
Tyrewear is slow and hard enough on rocks not to worrie about sharp edges pierce them. Looks nice on LR4 with sidegrip treads.

Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus rated 52% while driving a Land Rover LR4
Driving on mostly country roads for 22 average miles
Replaced Michelins with 4 Scorpion Zero on a 2016 Land Rover LR4 at 58,000 miles. This is a low mileage, well cared for SUV with mileage well below the national average. When I had the tires balanced and aligned by our local Land Rover dealer. I was told that one tire had a defect and could not be balanced properly. I returned the tire to the retailer where I bought the tires, who agreed with the dealers opinion. They referred my claim to the Pirelli wholesaler , who, after six months indicated that Pirelli refused to credit the cost of the tire. Fast forward Two years and the tire remains with Pirelli and I am out almost three hundred dollars. But wait! There's more! Recently, I had a flat and when I removed the tire I noticed the tread wear was so bad that the tires needed to be replaced after only 22,000 miles. Tread wear was even on all four tires which I have rotated every 5,000 miles I am now ready to pursue Pirelli for a full refund given the claim of 60,000 mile service for these tires. Sadly, I loved Pirelli in the past. having had P6s and Cinturato on other foreign coupes and sedans. Could it be now that Pirelli is a CHINESE COMPANY, product quality has declined? This is my experience but I will never buy Pirelli again. So far --- only crickets from Pirelli.

Feel very sure footed, very good in the wet, and amazing off road! It's a disco, so doesn't do speed really..

Nexen Roadian HT rated 57% while driving a Mercedes Benz ML
Driving on mostly country roads for 1200 average miles
These tyres are the worst in the world for picking up gravel in their treads and then ticking along as you drive till you have to stop and pick the treads clean. before you get driven mad. I did go off road and punctured the side wall on a rock, when the garage replaced the tyre they were surprised on how thin and flexible the side wall of the tyre was. When I bought my mercedes ml500 these were fitted all round at about £86 a tyre. Cheap and legal but utter rubbish. DO NOT BUY NEXEN TYRES for your 4x4. Now i look to see what tyres cars have before anything and if it's shod in cheap tat I presume the car has been run on a shoestring and would not entertain even contemplating buying it.

Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season rated 76% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 4
Driving on mostly country roads for 15000 spirited miles
Always had these on my LR Disco 4, sure footed in the snow, only really average 15000-20000 miles a set, probably more down to stye of driving, poor roads and taking roundabouts too fast (edges wear rapidly, but rotate front to back after 8-10k)

Avon AX7 rated 100% while driving a Volkswagen TOUAREG V6 TDI

I wish I found these sooner. Totally transformed my Touareg, the ride is far more comfortable, they grip well on and off road too. Will definitely buy these again, and reasonable cost too!

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 96% while driving a Audi a5 3.0 tdi quattro sport
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
Switched over to these from the cheap budgets my car came with and they have made my car feel like a completely different motor, the road noise is almost non existent and the dry grip is fantastic I feel a lot more glued to the road
