Bridgestone Weather Control A005 Reviews - Page 5

Given 60% while driving a BMW 330d M Sport (225/45 R17 V) on mostly motorways for 100 spirited miles
My normal ‘go to’ all-season tyre is the Michelin Cross-Climate+, but it wasn’t available in either my 18” summer wheel or 17” winter wheel sizes. Had a look around and the only options available in premium tyres were the Goodyear Vector 4 Season Gen 2, or these Bridgestones.

Reviews were favourable for both, with the Goodyears being better in the snow and the Bridgestones being better in the wet. As most of my driving will be cold & wet, the snow score was only useful for emergencies, so I went for the much cheaper Bridgestones.

Only had them on for 1000 miles, but I’ve stopped about every hundred to check the wheels are tightened up properly, and tyres have been fitted correctly, as the car bobs about all over the place on even smaller rut or road imperfection, and tramlines along motorway/dual carriageway ruts.

I guess this was never spotted on the tests as they tend to be done on circuits, but it’s a huge omission for a normal use road tyre.

I hope these wear in a bit and get better, otherwise I’m putting the summer tyres back on (cheap Maxxis UHPs which weigh a ton, but don’t tramline).

Given 44% while driving a Mercedes Benz Brabus Tuned (250/35 R18) on mostly motorways for 10,000 spirited miles
Fitted these to my C350 Brabus D6. They are terrifying on a higher powered car, granted 700nm takes some containing for any tyre but these are scarily easy to break away with very little effort in the dry or wet.

I cannot recommend them, they will be gone very soon.

Given 67% while driving a Volkswagen Golf 7 TDI (225/45 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
Bought these to replace worn out Davanti DX640's and I have to say I'm underwhelmed so far. They feel much less assured when cornering and generally sloppy. They also tramline terribly. I find their poor handling characteristics a big surprise given Bridgestone is at the upper end of the market. Not tested on snow/ice yet. Wet grip seems fine, but not noticably better than the Davanti tyres they have replaced.

Given 83% while driving a Honda Civic (205/50 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 6,000 average miles
These tyres go hand in hand with the 8th gen Civic. Very precise road feedback and handling. Relatively comfortable with low rolling noise and almost no clunky sounds from potholes. There's no ice where I live, but there might be a couple of snowy days. Nothing much to say for winter conditions, but we seem to get along better than average. The rest of the year is rather cold and rainy, which these tyres handle brilliantly.

I'm guessing these are 1/3 worn by now, which is OK for the car and driving conditions.

Really, this is probably the best tyre I could buy for my car and the climate I live in. Loads better than the Uniroyal RS3 in every way and better in cold rain and snow than the Bridgestone ER300's it came with.

Given 84% while driving a Renault Megane (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 6,000 average miles
Very similar to Michelins CrossClimates I had before, but with stiffer profile that gives much better steering feel, ok in snow, wear seams ok after 10.000km

Given 78% while driving a Volkswagen Polo 6R 1.6 (185/60 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
This is my first set of All Season tyres. Before I was using summer tyres (Dunlop) and Nokian winter tyres (can't remember on top of my head models). I am driving with WeatherControl tyres for almost 1 year now.
What I found is that Bridgestone A005 are incredibly comfortable compared to the Nokian as well as to Dunlop. Nokian were very noisy and handling was not always pleasant because too soft on side. Dunlop were simply terrible tyres even if handling in summer was a little bit better than the A005.
During summer A005 perform well on dry surfaces but the best you can get out of them is on wet. I was really impressed by the stability of the car and even by the sense of safety that you can get from the steering. During winter and wet condition I had same feeling.
On Snow unfortunately is not really the best tyres you can have. Of course compared to my previous Nokian we are far behind but I was expecting to have a bit more. I had issues a couple of times on soft snow and ice where was quite complicated to arrive up to the hills (I am quite experienced driver with almost 25 years of driving, living on mountains for almost 20 years).
If I will be asked to buy A005 again I will definitely go for them again but only on small-mid size car. For bigger cars I would look at Michelin CrossClimate/CrossClimate+ or the newest Verdestein Quatrac Pro.

Unbelievably grippy in cold rain in UK, very good tyre when there are puddles. Absorbs bumps and ruts in poor road surfaces (but keep them at lower pressure, not the higher fully laden pressure, for comfort) as they have XL sidewalls.

Only had snow once this winter, and happily went up a hill, (which is why people in UK switch to all seasons, to avoid getting stuck on rare snow days). So works in snow, brilliant when it rains, in my view a perfect solution.

Having tried these not sure why Bridgestone sells summer tyres in UK, as we don’t get 40c summer temps, but often get winter mornings (and whole days) below +7c

These tyres are very good on wet and dry roads in terms of breaking, handling and cornering and perform quite well on snow and ice, which is what you need from an all season tyre... BUT their comfort is not acceptable for a premium tyre at that price. They hit hard on every bump and puddle. I don' t know if it' s the XL index that comes with the 215/60/16 size that makes them so hard, but they are by far the worst tyres I ever had in terms of comfort, so bad that I am thinking of seling them as used and fitting something else, although I know I am going to lose a lot of money.

Audi (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 3,000 spirited miles
Now we've had some snow and ice I can review. Only about 3k miles use but I'm impressed. Particularly the wet grip, cold road grip is brilliant. Dry is very good but perhaps not quite as brilliant as the very top summer premium brands but in the usual damp cool roads we have in the North UK it's become the perfect all round tyre.

Given 77% while driving a MINI Cooper Clubvan Auto D (205/40 R18) on mostly country roads for 5,000 average miles
Very good tyre, well balanced dry wet performance with pretty decent winter capabilities.
Wears well and shows very little signs of wear, noise is low and fuel consumption is pretty good. Wet and dry braking is very good.
This is an ideal summer tyre with enough winter performance to get you home.
I drove through 2 inches of snow on various inclines and descent to get home, as long as you keep your speed down handling and braking on snow and ice is quite reasonable for this type of modern light all season tyre.
If you expecting to plow through 5 inches of packed snow then your better at looking a dedicated winter tyre like the Goodyear ultra-grip 9 or Barum Polaris 5.
But if you dont want the hassle of changing tyres each season and dont want the poorer dry and wet compromises of traditional all season tyres then this one is for you.

Given 81% while driving a Saab Automobile 9 3 se turbo 185 bhp (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
I previously had Nokian Weatherproof fitted to my car. Now I have had the opportunity to drive on about 5cm if snow Nd compacted ice. The bridgestone can't quiet match the Nokian snow performance (they are not far off), but are far better in the wet. The feedback is also better in the dry as are the stopping distances. A good balanced all rounder, suited to Southern England.
