205/55 17 Tyre Review Highlights

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 39% while driving a BMW 218i
Driving on mostly country roads for 500 average miles
NB the new tread depth on these is only 6.5 mm - (the normal is 8-9MM). In my case after less than 500 gentle miles all 4 tyres were down to 4.2mm after 3 months ie 47% worn having already lost 35% of potential wear. I also had a bulge without hitting any kerb or pothole. Continental told me they were designed that way and would save me fuel-MOT requires 3 mm of tread. avoid like the plague is my advice.

Kumho Solus TA31 rated 36% while driving a Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 average miles
Handling is the worst problem and from my experience emergency manoeuvres are chaotic.

Nexen N Blue HD Plus rated 70% while driving a Nissan Pulsar
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 easy going miles
On my Nissan, it came with Continentals when new so it always had very good grip. After one of the services, the dealer had to replace the tyres and they only had the Nexen, so we had no choice. These tyres are comfortable as the sidewalls appear to be soft. Dry grip is ok. But I go easy in the wet as they are not good with aquaplaning performance. However, knowing that they are made in Korea made me feel fine having them. Korean tyre manufacturers are generally competent.

Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 rated 34% while driving a Volkswagen Taigo
Driving on mostly motorways for 8000 average miles
I bought a new Taigo in 2/2022 and I bought a brand new Blizak LM 005. This is a 2nd winter season of this tyre. Yes, the tyre is good in wet, but the tyre is disaster when I am accelerating or when I am accelerating and turning from the side road.
Snow handling - disaster!

I am very disappointed. I have also Barum Polaris on Golf mk8 and the same road at the same weather - no issue.

Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO rated 93% while driving a Renault Unknown
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 easy going miles
I purchased these Bridgestone tyres from a certain online supermarket chain at a nice price and with almost 10,000 miles covered in 18 months these tyres have seen action in all weathers and have never failed me. Amazing traction in the snow and excellent grip in the wet.

Avon ZV7 rated 69% while driving a Renault Unknown
Driving on a combination of roads for 9000 easy going miles
A full set of ZV7 were purchased for my Renault Captur in September 2021.
Jan-24, I unfortunately got a nail in the rear tyre with plenty of tread remaining - 5.5mm - thinking that I could get a repair, but noticed that on all tread wells the tyre had perished. Checking all other three tyres, the same perishing has occurred. Sidewalls all okay.
Not high mileage - c.5k PA - but used regularly and pressures maintained.
Happy with performance, but really disappointed with longevity and would not buy again.

Hankook Kinergy 4S2 rated 77% while driving a MINI Unknown
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
Very good tire giving excellent handling on dry roads and confidence on snow.
As new can be a bit noisy on highway speed but this goes after 500km. For the moment vary happy with 4S2.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 rated 90% while driving a Peugeot 308 BlueHDI EAT6
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 average miles
Very good tire comparing with same size from Michelin or Continental which I used also. I used it on a Peugeot 308 1.6 l HDI Automatic transmission and Goodyear has a very good feedback from steering and good comfort on bumpy roads. I also drove the care on highway and it has a noise more because of the wind, not too much from the tire. I enjoyed used and it has better value comparing with Michelin or Continental which have similar performance also on sportive driving style. Michelin has less feedback from the road comparing with Goodyear or Continental.

Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 plus rated 60% while driving a Toyota Unknown
Driving on mostly town for 0 easy going miles
These tyres came as OEM on my '22 Yaris 1.5 hybrid.

The positives are:
- They are wonderfully comfortable, driving at a steady pace on the highway is very pleasant. They soak small bumps and they are quiet, both inside and out.
- The rolling resistance is very low, I can achieve 3.7L/100Km on average on each refile.

The negatives are:
- The dry grip & handling is good so long you don't push the tyres. If you try to have fun at a country road, the tyres reach their limit fast and the grip is lowering. The dry breaking is average, the ABS kicks in very often and the stopping distance is above average with the quality of the asphalt contributing to shorter or longer breaking. If you push the tyres they tend to be numb, by that I mean that you initiate the turn - the wheels turn - the car turns - and lastly you get the feedback on the steering that you start to turn.
- The wet grip, breaking and aqua planning resistance are bad. Comparing the Falken Sincera (165/60/16), Bridgestone WeatherControl A005 (205/55/17) and Dunlop Sport All Season (205/55/17) I've tried they resist aqua planning till 145Km/h with heavy rain and deep water puddles, were the Ecopia become unstable at 110Km/h.
- Compare to other Bridgestone tyres these started to crack at the outside at 10,000km and now at 21,000km they've cracked both inside and out even though the tread depth is high.

Would I buy them again? If it was just the overall handling against the low rolling resistance perhaps I would think about it, but considering they've cracked quite soon...I won't and I can't say I'd recommend them.

Falken Sincera SN250 AS rated 64% while driving a Volkswagen Unknown
Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 average miles
These are OEM tires on our 2019 Golf Alltrack. From day 1, I've wanted to get rid of them, but it's the girlfriend's car (her 1st new car and we're 68). They handle fine but are the NOISIEST tires I've ever experienced on anything but smooth asphalt. Once they hit that pebbly concrete, I pretty much have to put in my earplugs. I know the Alltrack isn't a Lexus but come on. I'm damn near willing to pay for new tires even though these are still at 7/32. Can anyone recommend the QUIETEST All-Season tire in the 205/55/17 or 225/50/17 size? From my research, it seems to be the Michelin Cross Climate 2, Defender 2 or Vredestein Quatrack Pro. Originally, I thought we wanted Bridgestone Turanza Quietrac but they don't get the best reviews. Thanks.

Kleber Dynaxer HP4 rated 100% while driving a Renault Unknown

Great value tyres. Very comfy and low noise levels. Handling in dry and wet is pretty good, really enjoying them so far. I would definitely recommend them.
