245/40 18 Tyre Review Highlights

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 94% while driving a Audi A4 2.0 TDI 140 SLine
Driving on a combination of roads for 16000 average miles
Probably the best tyres I've ever had on my daily and they saved my life.

In the dry they offer decent feedback and good grip for minimal road noise, great for long journeys.
In the wet there was no aquaplaning if driving at sensible speeds for the road I was on.
They were very progressive at the limit and you would know when the front end was close to sliding when pushing it on (useful for Audi owners...).
Wear was very even across the tread, nearside shoulder was at 1.6 mm and the main body was approx. 2 mm.

On the life saving bit, I was doing 100 km/h and a van appeared over a blind crest on the wrong side of the road. I decelerated from 100 - 0, easily within the 33 metres claimed by magazines. I've put a new set on the car and won't have anything else on the daily going forward.

Haida HD921 rated 34% while driving a Audi A6, 3.2L, Quattro
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 easy going miles
Came fitted on the front of a used A6. They made so much road noise I thought both front wheel bearings needed replacing. In dry corners they felt like they rolled onto the sidewall and would snap into understeer without warning. In the wet they were terrible. Overall the front of the car never felt connected and would constantly fidget over any slight imperfection. There are some respectful budget tyres out there, but these were just terrible.

Bridgestone Turanza 6 rated 90% while driving a Audi A6, 3.2L, Quattro
Driving on a combination of roads for 800 spirited miles
Have these fitted to an A6 quattro. The car sees a mix of motorway cruising and the odd B road blast. I normally go for Michelin Pilot Sports but found they only really shine in hot dry conditions, in which they are superb, but I haven't been a huge fan of them in colder wet conditions, typical to our British climate.
While the Bridgestones don't feel as responsive as Pilot Sports, they feel more stable in the wet, are quieter and I'm averaging 2mpg more. Not a lot but every gain is welcomed in a petrol V6. The Bridgestones are more comfortable with noticeably more dampening over rough surfaces and while they don't feel as responsive as the Michelins, the grip is there and you'll be sliding out of the seat long before losing grip in a corner.
Overall these are excellent tyres and much more suited to a big German saloon to eat up the miles than the usual performance tyres people default to. The car feels sure footed even in heavy downpours on the motorway yet happy to be thrown down a twisty B road.

Riken Riken UHP rated 59% while driving a Lexus GS450h
Driving on a combination of roads for 6000 average miles
When I purchased my Lexus GS450H it came with rear only Riken UHPs and in the dry with roughly 4mm remaining tread very grippy hard to destabilise the car without turning off TCS.
Performed well in wet conditions with essential tread levels BUT, be careful on wet conditions and especially when at legal limit tread levels the car can destabilise without too much effort. Otherwise quite solid.

I got around 6000 miles from around 4mm when I got the car so 12000 miles estimated when new.

Davanti Protoura Sport rated 45% while driving a Mercedes Benz C350 V6 Estate
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 average miles
On the car when I bought it, relatively fresh tread. Two years hoping for them to come to a worn stage that I can justify simply binning them and replacing them with some Michelins or Continentals. Admittedly on the front end on a rear wheel drive car.
Really have worries when it’s wet and /or cold.
Super hard compound , doesn’t give much confidence in summer and get replaced every autumn with winter tyres.

Michelin Alpin 7 rated 90% while driving a Audi A4 b9 2.0 tdi
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
I had only recently bought these tires. There were no reviews since they are brand new, but I had Alpin 3 and 4, plus this is Michelin, so I figured they are good. And indeed they are. Much sofer and offer more comfort than my summer Goodyear F1 Asymetric 6. Thats the first impression. They offer more comfort. Noise is the same as F1, handling is fine, as you expect. Still waiting for a below zero temperatures and snow, but for now - you get what you pay for. Excellent tyre

Davanti Protoura Sport rated 26% while driving a BMW 120d xdrive with MSport Package
Driving on mostly town for 14 average miles
Useless tyre if you ask me. Brand new set on a year ago, all of them are almost at the tread limit. When brand new they gripped reasonably well but after maybe a month or two that went out the window. Horrendous in the wet, 30-40mph understeer on bends in a four wheel drive 1 series. Not very comfortable. One thing I will give them though is they can take a hit, I’ve hit some serious potholes in these and heard some brutal sounds when doing so yet the tyres have been fine, also never had a puncture, could be luck but I’m notorious for bad luck with nails in tyres. Overall though they’ve worn out very fast, don’t grip so well after a thousand or two miles, useless in the wet, not very comfortable and don’t give great road feedback. Disappointed at the lifespan on them if I’m honest.

Continental SportContact 7 rated 86% while driving a Audi TT MK2 TFSI
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
I really push my car to the extreme during the summer, so these tires have been seriously tested, but they’re still in good condition and will definitely serve you well!
These tires have decent durability, but I'm not entirely satisfied with the wear or their appearance. The sidewalls are rounded, and the tire markings are plain, lacking the sporty, aggressive look you'd find with brands like Michelin.
In terms of performance, the dry grip is excellent when the tires are properly warmed up, which significantly enhances their traction. Braking on dry surfaces is very strong. On wet surfaces, while braking performance does drop, they still maintain solid grip.
I had PS3 and PS4 tires on the same car. Next time, I plan to buy the PS5 tires, even though I think Continental tires have better performance on dry surfaces. However, I’m unsure about how long they’ll last.

Michelin CrossClimate 2 rated 69% while driving a Mercedes Benz E350
Driving on mostly motorways for 17000 easy going miles
Tire was great for the first 15K miles and then road noise and comfort deteriorated rapidly to the point that the tires had to be replaced. Would not recommend for the e350 sport package with 18in rims

Yokohama Advan Neova AD09 rated 87% while driving a Honda Civic 1.5T
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
Dry and wet grip is fenomenal, when cold and normal driving it doesn't wear too much like softer tyres and has great grip cold but when warmed up it outperforms other older semislicks. Easily 1+ second faster per "track minute" than a ToyoR888R. It's also a confortable semislick it doesnt create much noise thanks to its pattern. It is a premium dual purpose semislick, sad part is yokohama keeps increasing it's price.

Continental PremiumContact 7 rated 58% while driving a Mercedes Benz C220 Cdi Avantgarde Estate
Driving on mostly motorways for 20000 average miles
Good grip and a good steering feel but is too loud to use, it feels like the windows are open while driving. I replaced them after one month with Hankook prime4, which are completely silent compared to Contis. I am very disappointed with Continental Premium Contact 7 and I don't recommend buying those tyres!

Continental ContiMaxContact MC6 rated 56% while driving a BMW 525i
Driving on a combination of roads for 18641 spirited miles
If I was to sum this tyre up into a phrase it would be: the budgeted experience of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and that isn’t a bad thing.

I have these tyres on my BMW E60 525i and have currently put on roughly 30,000KM. I’m from Malaysia and in Malaysia you can drive however fast you dare to go. (those from Malaysia would understand) My driving includes: spirited drives (touge), fast highway miles, and mundane traffic. My car although a BMW it still has a natural tendency to understeer, this is further exemplified with minimal camber up front. I am running -2.0 camber on the back.

I’ll have my review broken down into sections for easy reading.

Dry Grip: One word, understeer. With the setup and characteristic of my car, this tyre when pushed to the limit it understeers. The front is always the weaker axle and the first to give when pushed. Moving on to the rear. With -2.0 camber at the back I am able to go through somewhat acute bends on the highway at speeds of 200km/h+ (IPOH to KL and vice versa for those in Malaysia) and not be at the limit of the tyre or car. So in my opinion, with the right set up these tyres they can give you more than it would with a factory set up.

Wet Grip: This is the compromise of this tyre. The wet grip is non-existent, especially after I have tried the Conti SC7 on another car, the differences are night and day. (although they are two completely different tyres) This tyre hydroplains like crazy, although it still does good enough to not throw you into the barrier, unless you are driving very stupidly it won’t be killing you, but you are still better off not pushing this tyre in the wet. This reflects on spirited driving in the wet as well. Even with a wet line and attempting to mitigate understeer up Genting (a famous touge road in Malaysia) the tyres are just not up to the task. Depending on the turn and the weight distribution of the car at the time it will happily go into either understeer or oversteer. In conclusion, just not a confidence aspiring tyre in the wet.

Road Feedback & Comfort: I find this tyre soft and pliant. Great for comfort but there is no road feedback. Even with a hydraulic steering rack this tyre still mutes out a lot of the impurities that I would like to feel through the wheel at times.

Wear: Right now at 30,000KM~ the tyres are at their halfway mark so assuming the wear rate remains constant I should be expecting 60,000KM~ out of these tyres. This type of wear rate for me is a 5/5 rating.

Coming to a close, to be completely honest the reason why I got this tyre at the time (2022) was due to a budget constraint. My top choice at the time was the PS5 and I will be getting the PS5 after this tyre. Hence why I say this tyre is a budget experience of the PS4. It gives you that overall road focused sporty tyre at the cost of wet performance and at a cheaper price.
