Uniroyal RainSport 2 Reviews - Page 9

Given 80% while driving a Renault Megane (195/45 R16 V) on mostly country roads for 5,000 average miles
Bought these to replace budget tyres which were on the alloys when i bought them. Absolutely night and day! Bought them on recommendation from others with the same car and I can see why they recommended them.

The car feels much more planted and i have a lot more confidence in it in both the wet and the dry. They aren't called Rainsports for nothing! I've yet to push the car hard enough to find their limits. These are a lower profile than my old tyres (cheaper) and yet they still ride more than well enough.
There's a good degree of feel through the steering (but there's only so much feel a megane is ever going to give!)

I've had them on a few months now (about 5000 miles) and they seem to be wearing well, but i can't comment on the longterm wear yet.
I plan to buy some for the back too when i've got the money.

Given 60% while driving a Volkswagen Polo GTI (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 20,000 average miles
I put these on as a replacement for the original fit Conti Sport Contact 2's. Contis gave me 40,000 miles and these have just on 20,000 miles and they are gone.

I find the handling of these tyres a major dissapointment, although the ride is certainly softer than the Contintentals.

Given 89% while driving a Skoda Octavia vRS (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 20,000 spirited miles
2nd set fitted on my Octavia vRS. Have tried Michelin, Goodyear and Avon. This is still the best performing tyre for me. Wet or even just greasy roads hold no fears.Performance in the dry, especially on corners leaves others wallowing over the white line! The only minus point is that if you drive in a spirited way wear does increas disproportinately but this of course is only to be expected.

Given 77% while driving a Mazda MX5 (195/50 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 5,000 spirited miles
I had these fitted to the rear of my Mazda MX5 which is a rear wheel drive car. I did have some Yokohama S306 tyres fitted previously. The Rain Sport tyres have a lot more grip than the Yokohama ever did. However the MX5 is quite a sporty car with tight handling, these tyres although very grippy are a bit wallowy (other people have described it as "feeling like driving a boat"). I agree with this boat feeling, the tyres have very soft side walls. These tyres would be perfect for a Family Car such as a Ford Mondeo etc, but for a sports cars I don't think they are really designed to be sharp and quick responding. Good tyres but only for Normal Family cars. I think I wil switch to Toyo TR-1 tyres as they are designed to be more sporty.

Given 81% while driving a Renault Megane (195/45 R16 V) on mostly town for 15,000 average miles
I had these on my 98 Megane Coupe (2.0 16v) when i bought the car, they were pretty new, so i think at an approximation, they have done 15000 and iv just had them replaced. Being on a budget and thin time scale, i could not wait a week to get them fitted so i opted for some avons.

However, i still have 2 uniroyal rainsport 2's on the front (i changed them from the rear) as they had stacks of tread left., so my Avons are on the back now.
On a FWD car, driving spiritedly on short / medium journeys they do wear quicker, a bit of spin here and there, but mainly on gravely poor surfaces. i suspect resurfacing with them horrible stones wore them down as most roads my way have been resurfaced like this.
On a long trip to Dorset they were brill, as they were going to Wales, I would certainly recommend them, brilliant grip in the wet and on dry, Never used them on ice

Given 61% while driving a Audi A6 (225/55 R16 W) on mostly motorways for 12,000 average miles
Impressive in rain and mud. Steering wheel feedback is spongy. Tread wear looks even and smooth although saw toothing on outer and inner tread edges gives rise to high levels of noise on some surfaces. Garage checked wheel alignment ok. Noise problem outweighs any rain performance benefit. Avoid.

Given 93% while driving a Vauxhall Astra SXi (205/50 R16 W) on mostly country roads for 0 spirited miles
Best tyres i have had on my Vauxhall Astra. The Uniroyal’s are better than the continentals and Dunlop’s that i have had in the past. Fantastic in the dry and pretty good in the wet as well.

Given 89% while driving a Toyota Celica GT4 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
I don't know why there are some bad reviews for these tyres, I think they are excellent. I have been buying Uniroyal tyres for years, but living in Northern Ireland we experience a lot more wet weather than most of the UK.

Uniroyal tyres are made by Continental in Germany, so the quality is superb. Wet grip is phenomenal, dry grip is as good as Toyo Proxies. Luckily for me the celica gives excellent drivers feedback unlike a lot of these more modern cars.

My previous tyres were Pirelli Pzero's and before that I had a set of Falken's on but Uniroyal wet & dry grip is far superior!

I would say the only problem I have with these tyres is road noise, but that's more down to my car than the tyres.

Given 53% while driving a Toyota MK2 MR2 NA (215/40 R17) on mostly country roads for 15 spirited miles
Put these on my MK2 MR2 after suffering appalling handling on the tyres that were fitted when I bought the car a couple of years ago.
Unbelievable wet handling with no let downs and good in the dry too, any breakaway is progressive and controllable.(Did Welsh roads in the wet at unbelievable speeds, even though they are now down to about 3mm on the back) Not noticed any side wall flexing due to 40 profile. Tried them in fresh 3inches of snow one night and better than expected. Would I buy them again?...just try and stop me from doing so.

Bought these tyres because of the good write up on this site BUT the side walls are too soft and yes my car feels like a boat now....what a shame

Given 30% while driving a Skoda Octavia vRS (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
After 500 miles I had to cut my losses and replace these. As a spirited driver these just didn't suit my car. I have never seen my traction control light come on as much in the dry.

If you want your car to feel like a boat these tyres are for you. Never again!
